Tampa & Miami Police Departments Address Rumors of ‘Beyonce Boycott’

Published: Thursday 18th Feb 2016 by Rashad

If you thought Beyonce‘s ‘Super Bowl 50’ drama had cooled by any means, your thoughts are every flavor of wrong.

The songstress, set to kick off her highly anticipated ‘Formation’ stadium tour at April’s end, is still very much a hot topic courtesy of her recent halftime show outing (deemed by many as racially provocative and anti-police).  In fact, in addition to a number of viewers hopping on to the #BoycottBeyonce train, some cities’ police forces are banding together to boycott the singer’s security detail when she touches down in their area.

Two cities seeming to make the most noise are Floridian metros Tampa and Miami.  While reports indicated the former’s police were set to skip out on security when she visits on April 29th, the latter were said to be on the fence…

To clear up the confusion, Tampa’s force took to Twitter to say:

Miami, on the other hand, is not here for the Queen Bey (in more way than one):

The Fraternal Order of Police has moved on from berating filmmaker Quentin Tarantino to bashing Beyoncé, vowing to boycott working security at her concert when her Formation tour kicks off in April in Miami.

Members of the Miami chapter of the FOP, the national police union, voted to boycott Beyoncé’s April 27 show at Marlins Stadium, local union president, Lt. Javier Ortiz, confirmed Thursday.

He called on all police officers everywhere to boycott all of her concerts on her forthcoming world tour.

The reason: She ‘”used this year’s Super Bowl to divide Americans by promoting theBlack Panthers and her anti-police message,” Ortiz said in a letter announcing the boycott.

Note: Miami and Tampa are the first two dates of the ‘Formation’ world tour.
