Prior to this week, Taylor Swift was the only artist this century with the distinct honor of seeing two of her albums top the Billboard 200 for at least 10 weeks or more. Now, thanks to sales spilling over from award and talk show appearances, she’s joined by another mega-selling diva: Adele.
Fending off the likes of Justin Bieber and Rihanna for yet another week, Addy adds a 10th week to the chart reign of her latest album ’25.’ But, if this isn’t enough for the powerhouse diva to celebrate, its predecessor ’21’ (which enjoyed a whopping 24 weeks at the top during its prime) is back on the ascent!
See where it, and all your other favorite albums of the day, landed on this week’s Billboard 200:
Adele’s 25 rules the Billboard 200 albums chart for a tenth nonconsecutive week, as it earned another 100,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 25, according to Nielsen Music. In terms of pure album sales, it sold 81,000 (down 35 percent).
25 is just the fifth album released since 2000 to achieve 10 weeks at No. 1. It follows Taylor Swift’s 1989 (released in 2014, 11 weeks at No. 1), the Frozen soundtrack (2013, 13 weeks), Adele’s 21 (2011, 24 weeks) and Swift’s Fearless (2008, 11 weeks).
Rihanna’s former No.1, Anti, climbs 3-2 with 80,000 units (up 1 percent) while Justin Bieber’s Purpose dips 2-3 with 63,000 units (down 25 percent).
Tidbit: Nice to see 10 of the top 20 are Urban releases!
