As we reported here, ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ rapper Kendrick Lamar was set to take flight to the top of album charts with his latest set ‘untitled unmastered.’
Appropriately named for its tracklist, which is comprised mostly of demos left on the cutting room floor of ‘Butterfly’ and other recorded ventures, the surprise project was predicted to hit #1 on the wings of 175,000-185,000 downloaded.
Already topping charts ahead of its physical version hitting store shelves and digital retailers on March 11th, see how close Lamar landed to the previously mentioned industry analyst forecast:
First Week Sales: 178,000
Kendrick Lamar’s surprise Untitled Unmastered project debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, earning 178,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 10, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 142,000 were in pure album sales.
With this accomplishment, Lamar becomes the third act this year (following Future and Drake) to have two #1 albums in a 365 day time frame.
Congratulations!
