The legend’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure told The Associated Press the music icon was found dead at his home today in Chanhassen, Minneapolis.
As reported, the late singer had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. He later appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. At the time, his team told TMZ he was battling the flu.
He was 57.
The music world has lost one of its authentic greats. May he Rest In Peace.

!!! I thought of this shortly after the shock learning that he is gone and this is not a hoax. Goes to show how we must respect and cherish our legends before it’s too late. I’m quite young so I’m not in the generation that grew up on Prince but I have his greatest hits and Purple Rain album. I always had huge respect for his talent and influence because with the way people spoke about him even before his death, you could tell he was revered as somewhat of a musical god. This news is so hard to believe. Prince was one of a kind. A man who was unafraid to be himself in his art and personal life. A lot of artists are vastly talented, but few are anointed. He was anointed and put on earth to share his art and change the way artists and art was presented. His music is timeless, his look was unmatched and his genius will live on through the artists he’s touched. It’s so sad that his protege Vanity passed away just nine weeks ago. It’s tough now, but his music is so strong, that he or it will never die. It’s also important that we respect and honor the legends that are still with us like Patti, Aretha, Stevie, Gladys, Chaka, Al Green, Diana, etc., even younger icons like Mariah, Mary, Sade, Janet, Babyface, Toni, Anita etc. They made waves so Beyoncé, Rihanna, Chris, Usher, A. Keys, etc. can SLAY and make power moves in the game and continue to push art forward. I’m sure BET is already making calls to Maxwell, Miguel, D’Angelo, Janelle Monet, Sheila E., Morris Day and the Time, etc. for a stellar tribute at this years BET Awards.

I heard the news a few hours ago and I couldn’t think for a few minutes! I wasn’t the biggest Prince SUPERfan (although I thoroughly understood that he was a music genius), but I was a huge Prince admirer. I appreciated his musicianship, his compelling stage presence, his art, unique writing expertise and just his awesome ability to march to his own beat. It still kind of boggles my mind when I think of someone like Prince debuting in the eighties. Prince had a flair about him that some people couldn’t pull off/get away with in 2016! I guess it didn’t matter if you didn’t understand him fully, he was captivating in every way!
I saw Underneath the Cherry Moon a few years ago and I just couldn’t believe Prince was so daring so many decades ago! He’s almost like a male Madonna… with talent! Anyway, MJ, Whitney and Prince are gone now! … so are many other legendary artists. It’s like seeing so many great musical dynasties just vanish! God bless all of their souls! The industry is truly on life support now! It makes me feel like I don’t want to take for granted any of our great artists that we have left! Sad thought: only 50% of that legends panel is alive now! 🙂 … Give your favs their flowers now! Life is short.

Prince, Whitney and MJ changed the way music by Black artists was presented in the 80s. They, along with Run DMC, were the first artists to have their videos play in heavy rotation on MTV. They became Pop stars along side Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Bon Jovi, etc. who were popular at the time. The blazed a trail for future stars like LL, Janet, MC Hammer, Sade, etc. to become iconic as well. Hopefully Prince, Nippy, MJ and Jam master Jay are smiling in heaven, looking the influence on all of today’s music, style, culture and everything else in between. They are gone in spirit, but their contributions will never be forgotten.
