It appears footage of Christina Aguilera‘s duet with Whitney Houston’s hologram surfaced for a reason.
Originally due to air on next week’s finale of The Voice, the pre-recorded performance has sensationally been axed by Houston’s estate.
Via Pat Houston, Whitney’s Sister-In-Law & Estate Rep:

We were looking to deliver a ground breaking duet performance for the fans of both artists. Holograms are new technology that take time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic caliber, it must be perfect. Whitney’s legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection. Sounds to me that they were going to play it off as LIVE and it leaked. It was good tho, I don’t see the issue. Whitney is prob the one artist to pull this off. MJ required dancing and no way they could pull that off. With virtual reality and holograms, it’s no different than watching tv. imo

I know, and they couldn’t pull it off because of the dancing. Whitney stood and moved only her arms, so it’s much easier to pull off. But I seen clips of her glitching on I Will Always Love You.

Wow, first off there’s a difference between a hologram and straight impersonation and this was the latter. Homegirl looks NOTHING like Nippy. She may have the frame and gestures but, again, looks nothing like her. Christina did great but I’m shocked at how cheap a production it was trying to fool the public. Nope!

There’s nothing wrong with the performance but this is uncomfortable to watch.I’ve been having a really bad feeling about Pat Houston for years now…Why is she doing this?Whitney’s catalog sells close to a million albums worldwide annually,that’s alot more than her peers and much much more than what 90% of artists today are selling.Are the royalties from that not enough for her?It’s bad enough the person Whitney willed her estate to (Bobbi Kristina) is no more.I hope she cancels the hologram tour as well.Whitney’s legacy doesn’t need anyone working to keep it alive,it’s always been alive & it’s been that way since Whitney chose to use her incredible voice to record music that’ll live on forever.

I like the performance but still idk it just didn’t serve me Whitney Live. It will not surprise me soon they will be considering a Prince hologram too smfh. They are exploiting the legends for profits. To some degree I kind of see where Pat trying to do, Whitney estate isn’t like MJ, Prince, Madonna, and Mariah. Had she wrote those hits s***…it’ll likely be around at least 800 million, so she figures a hologram tour will generate more sell tickets/profits into the estate.
I saw absolutely nothing wrong with the quality of the hologram. I think the Houstons had second thoughts about having Whitney simulated using a look-alike. When I first heard they were planning a hologram tour, I assumed they were going to make holographic creations from live Whitney footage. I’m so here for a hologram tour, but only if it’s a holographic recreation of her and not a simulation using a model/actress.

You better talk about it! See, Nippy was a great performer/vocalist. But, business wise she messed up big time when she signed that contract with Sony in the early 00s & didn’t write/produce none of her records. Nor did she own her masters or own any publishing rights. She could’ve at-least gotten producers credit, because she virtually was producing the song. She rarely sanged the song in the original form it was created to be sung.

This is why it’s very important to understand business, FIRST! Talent is unfortunately second in the music BUSINESS. Beyonka maybe a thief (allegedly), but she will be a successful thief (allegedly). Mathew (her father) not only trained Bey on how to nourish & strengthen her talents … But, also conditioned her brain on how to navigate in a shady, satanic & very cut-throat industry.

Anyways, Nippy ain’t worried about it tho. I miss her voice, she was a rarity. Vocally, she was perfect. Physically, she was beautiful. One of the rare cases when a great singers voice, actually matches their FACE! (lol). I don’t like them constantly bringing the dead back to life with these “holograms”. Exactly, God how I wish Whitney thought about this and of course too recorded he’ll of tracks like MJ,Prince, and Mariah have in their vaults. Supposedly she do have a good handful of unreleased tracks from the 80s n 90s but idk if Clive will put them out especially that third collaboration with Jermaine Jackson and her gospel version of Saving all my love for you.
*hell ….also I wished Nippy had did an jazz album after she covered I Love you porgy n summertime. Jazz would’ve been her best friend especially in I Look To You era.
She didn’t even reach 50% of her potential as an artist tbh… But, it wasn’t meant to be. She’ll be missed, forever.
To be honest I have no clue what to think…
So after a few spins I’ve come to this conclusion: Aside from the sound quality being crap, I think Christina did good and she didn’t growl so that was a surprise. And there was even moments where they blended beautifully and moments where Christina sounded like Whitney. However…I still felt like Christina could have done better. Maybe it was because she was performing with a hologram and not the real Whitney and she didn’t have that live energy? Because I didn’t feel her lost in the music. Idk but I still know she can do better, or maybe I just need to accept that “Back to Basics” era Christina is officially gone? Nonetheless I’m honored that the remaining Houston’s thought of Christina for this opportunity, good or bad.

Also the hologram didn’t look like Whitney in the face, the idea is cool but overall let the dead rest in peace. At most I think this should have been Christina singing a Whitney melody, which she may do instead on The Voice. Idk those are just my thoughts.

Christina’s voice was actually quite amazing. None of her trade mark glottal (i.e. growling) or ‘SAY!’ b*******. Just beautiful. Pity it’s not going to air.
The performance was great. The only thing was whitney’s face that i could not really recognize but outside of that, it was perfect.
I just feel like the surprise leaked and they cancelled the performance.
Somebody’s gonna get fired and it will be a very bad day for that person.
From this all story, i just feel like some people are not scared to lose their job just for 5 minutes of fame… anyway, hope this performance will be back soon.
Im not mad at it but sounds like Christina’s vocals were recorded in a studio, cleaned up, and lip sung for this. And maybe they did that for some reason so Im not really complaining. Xtina can sing the house down regardless, but her vocals arnt that smooth live anymore. Barry Manilow sung live when he performed a duet with a Whitney Houston hologram on The View tho.
And people have unrealistic expectations for these. The only way the image quality can be up to peoples expections is if they are curre tly alive and can be shot at different angles and all that (aka like Mariah Careys hologram performance she did a few years back). If not, it has to be digital. The Michael Jackson hologram and the Tupac hologram (and the Whitney hologram) were basically just like a digital character you see on a video game or animation movie. They cant just turn an old low quality performance video into a hologram.

That performance was NOT lipped! People in the audience said they took 3 takes which ALL sounded different.
They probably put the 3 takes into one. That’s all.
What we hear in this clip is TOTALLY lipped. I mean, sometimes I don´t knoe if people have brains or not lol She maybe did her performance live thre (like Mariah in idol finale a few years ago). But the final clip which was ready to air was all a pre recorded track. It´s obvious.

About xtina´s voice: she diesn´t fail, but she still screams as a way of belting. It´s her trademark, she cannot do better, but it is just not good. There are a trillion reasons why she is not Whitney´s level (or Mariah´s).

I know what it is, its that I still hear Whitney’s version in my head, so that’s why I’m so indifferent towards Christina, which is no shade to her, she did good. I still love my girl X.
