Released to support his album ‘Purpose‘, the Dancehall-inspired jam’s journey has seen it swerve into Litigious Lane after an artist named White Hinterland noticed similarities between the cut and one of her own.
White Hinterland, whose real name is Casey Dienel, claims the “unique characteristics of the female vocal riff” from her 2014 song “Ring the Bell” is the same as that used on Bieber’s track.
Eight seconds of the “Ring the Bell” riff is allegedly used six times in Bieber’s Purpose standout track.
The artist claims she asked camp Bieber to pull the riff from the cut in December but was ignored as sales of the song continued to rise globally.
