One dominated the charts last year, while the other has been wowing for much of this. Yet, both Adele and Drake said hello to fresh successes this week; wins which re-affirm their spots as market leaders.
Details below…
In a gargantuan feat, Drizzy’s album ‘VIEWS’ log its tenth week atop of the Billboard 200 in the same week that its current single ‘One Dance’ earns its tenth week at #1 on the Hot 100.
The latter is powered by a radio audience of 159 million, 58,000 downloads, and 17.9 million US streams.
Though the total weeks at the top are non-consecutive for the album and single, they are enough to see the Canadian MC join an elite list. And which list is that? It’s an exclusive roll-call of artists who’ve released LPs that have topped the charts for 10 weeks or more AND spawned a single (from said set) that stayed at #1 for the same duration.
That count is completed by Whitney Houston (‘The Bodyguard’), Santana (‘Supernatural’), and Adele (’25’).
As for the latter, she also has cause to celebrate this week.
For, the album’s current single ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)’ becomes the project’s second top 10 single after rising #12-#10.
The hurricane success of lead single ‘Hello’ is well-documented, but despite the 17 million sales of ’25,’ its softly launched second single ‘When We Were Young’ could only manage a #14 peak on the tally.
‘Lover’ makes the leap thanks to a radio audience of 79 million, digital downloads of 51,000, and 8.4 million US streams over the 7-day tracking week.
