Apple is reportedly sizing its rising rival TIDAL up this week.
Find out why below…
Jay-Z introduced the streaming service to the world in March 2015 with the help of several celebrity pals who signed on to pick up shares in the platform.
This year, after the Roc Nation jefe purchased it for $56 million from Aspiro, it seems Apple is preparing to rescue it from the trouble its faced since struggling to live up to expectations.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Apple is exploring the idea of bringing on Tidal to bolster its Apple Music service because of Tidal’s strong ties to popular artists such as Kanye West and Madonna.
The talks are ongoing and may not result in a deal, these people said. Terms of the potential deal aren’t known.
Apple has been working to secure close relationships with recording artists. It has provided marketing assistance to artists, while also helping to pay for music videos for high-profile artists in exchange for a certain period of exclusivity on Apple Music.
A Tidal spokesman has declined to comment.
If true, the deal would bolster Apple’s share in the world of streaming, adding to its Apple Music streaming service which is fronted by Dr. Dre, Drake, Ebro Darden and Jimmy Iovine, formerly of Interscope Records.
