Britney Spears fans are furious.
The singer unveiled the video for her new single ‘Make Me’ and it’s making waves for all the wrong reasons.
In today’s info-age, it became common-knowledge that the clip’s delay was caused by extensive re-edits. An explanation which confirmed itself when a racy version of the visual premiered just minutes after the official edit premiered.
The alternate vid, which was lensed by David LaChapelle, was unanimously hailed the better of the two. And now members of the star’s fanbase are angling for an official roll-out.

Taking to Change.org, Spears supporter Austin Dame started a petition demanding the release of the “better” video. Impassioned, he wrote:
Since the music video for Britney Spears’ lead single, “Make Me…” to her new album “Glory” has been released, we Britney fans find that the music video is not a suitable representation of the song and we are calling for the original video to be released (Yes, we know there was a video shot by David LaChapelle before this one, parts of it have already leaked). We ask that RCA Records/Sony Music Entertainment release the original video that was filmed by David LaChapelle for the song.
As at writing, 10,000 fans have signed – incredible given that the form only went live today.
Maybe we’ve been watching too much ‘Scandal,’ but the whole thing smells like a publicity stunt. A smart one.
See, if the petition continues to gather steam and generate headlines like the one atop of this very story, it a) creates more buzz around the song and b) will likely see the preferred video unleashed officially.
The latter is especially noteworthy in today’s streaming climate. Because, while Spears may still be as stiff as Pinocchio, the reality is that folk still like to watch her. And with her sales (and everyone else’s) on the wane, dropping an alternate edit on VEVO would gift her the SPS points to rise above the pack.
If it were us, we’d “cave to the pressure” and drop the second video the week her ‘Glory’ album is released and get them streams!
Stay tuned to see if it plays out as such!
