Today is the day!
The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards are upon us.
Set to air live tonight from Madison Square Garden, the NYC extravaganza will boast performances from some of Pop’s most potent forces.
Join us after the jump as we rundown one of the most action-packed line-up’s in recent memory.
Rihanna
Next to Video of the Year, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award easily serves as the evening’s most coveted Moonman. This time, Rihanna is its recipient.
To mark the win, the Bajan sensation will grace the stage for performance that producers have described as a “holy crap” moment.
If the slots afforded to previous recipients are anything to go by, RiRi could be on stage for up to 10 minutes.
Consistently inconsistent, can the 28-year-old hold her own?
Britney Spears
Since heating up Las Vegas, Britney‘s music career has undeniably cruised on auto-pilot. Yet, with the release of 9th album ‘Glory’ this week, the Pop deity appears to have woken from her slumber and is actively pounding the promotional pavement.
Said vigour will see her land once again on the VMA stage.
With the show gifting her career some of its most memorable moments (both good and tragic), it’ll be fascinating to see which side of the line tonight’s performance lands.
Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj
Undeterred by the so-so sales of new album ‘Dangerous Woman,’ Ariana Grande is booking stages left and right.
This go round she’s joined by ‘Bang Bang’ collaborator Nicki Minaj.
Together the pair live-launch Grande’s new single ‘Side To Side’ – the video for which is primed to arrive just before or immediately after their showing.
Though not known for their 8-counts or military-like precision, the ladies are dependable when it comes to bringing the fun-factor. Ari’s vocals are also not be denied or played with.
Beyonce
Pop’s definitive show-stopper Beyonce is set to bring ‘Lemonade’ to life in spectacular fashion tonight.
Since the onset of her career, Mrs Carter has made it routine to approach each performance like an Olympic final. One, which like Usain, she always wins.
With “no promo” being her primary promo these days, such award show showings are rendered even more exciting than usual.
Will she steal the headlines like always? History has us leaning towards a resounding “yes!”
