Cop a gander of Alicia Keys!
The singer continues her make-up-free comeback campaign a-front of Time Out Magazine New York.
It’s the latest in a long line of promotional spots lined up for the star’s return to the spotlight.
Earlier this summer it appeared as though all the media moments were leading up to an album release. However, when lead single ‘In Common’ failed to ignite the charts, the volume on album chatter was turned down. All the way down.
Until now.
Details below…
In her feature interview, it’s revealed that collaborators on the LP include Pharrell and Swizz Beatz. It’s also alluded to that ‘Common’ may not make the final tracklist. We wonder why.
Elsewhere, Keys said…
On The Album’s Theme
“It all started with uncensoring myself. We allow ourselves to become censored because we don’t want to offend people. We’ll be whoever everyone wants us to be. I didn’t want to be that anymore. This was the first time I created music with such intention. Coupled with the fire that’s in the world is the inescapable fire in myself.”
On Her Make-Up-Less Movement
“I promise you I had no idea that it would be such a touchstone. I was just sharing this revelation: I realized I’d been covering up in so many ways. What if I don’t want to put on makeup, heels, get all dressed up?
We’re trying to break out of our inherited stereotypes and misinformation. It’s screwing us all up. I’m trying to work on loving myself the best that I can.”
On Not Compromising & Finding Her Freedom
“I never thought I was artistically compromised. Between my first manager [Jeff Robinson], my former A&R [Peter Edge], who is now head of RCA, and Clive Davis, none of them told me what to do. At the same time, I didn’t have the knowledge I have now
But you’re absolutely right. I did have to find my freedom. There comes a time when you have to become a woman, stand on your own two feet. That’s why this music has such a surprising, relentless, raw New York energy.”
Fans can catch the ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ each week on The Voice, where she stars as one of the NBC hit’s new coaches.
Unthinkable was the last time I liked her work, something is missing, there’s no raw emotion like before, she even dropped the ball whit her music videos.
Her skin is too bad not be wearing something, you can still see at some point she had acne and she doesn’t have smooth skin, she is so delusional…
You’re apart of the problem she is speaking about. It’s not about having perfect skin it’s about being real and human.
people like you are the reason for the movement. Your an idiot and you should try to understand the concept before you speak on it. She never said “I’m so flawless i don’t need make up” she says she wnats to love herself the best way she can so screw off and stop being a troll, acne is a human condition that affects almost everybody, and having acne or having had it doesn’t take away from somebody’s beauty. Life isn’t about covering up and trying to look how random people on the internet think you should look. Your the one that’s delusional + wack.
I didn’t read the article nor do I plan on listening or reading anything that comes out of this Gimmicky, Hypocritical woman’s mouth, and get over! She has bad skin and if she was about a movement and proud she would have done this from their start or at-least by her second album when she did have clout regarding her image.
So she gon just act like the proactiv that she used to advertise for is still working? I’m done!!!
for people who are use to seeing makeup caked up on every artist in a magazine, yall need to stfu. probably don’t even remember what natural skin looks like photographed.
If you’re going to post a comment so general, you might not want to reply me, as I’m going to think you’re addressing directly, and fkkk up your feelings more than Alicia Keys’s face.
I guess at the photoshoot, Alicia said, “My face can be makeup free, but my tittiez don’t have to be” lol
So I guess lotion is considered makeup now? Because her skin looks dry af lmao.
In Common is a good song. Who cares if it didn’t wasn’t a hit?…
I don’t understand why In Common FLOPPED so badly. It was a good song.
I think bc it didn’t really gt air play. With all this Beyonce and Rihanna playing over and over again, the radio stations are the one to blame to me. I love that song honestly
Salty black b****** in the comments. Go back to Lipstick Alley.
I think the no makeup thing is overshadowing the music. There’s no anticipation for the actual music and that may be because the last album was lackluster. But I feel like her no makeup movement is contributing to that too. She probably would’ve been better off not talking about it. I’ll be giving the album a listen whenever it comes out though.
her make-less look is flawless. let them bum b****** hate. I really like In Common and I hope the album is just as good
LMAO AND THAT S**** JAY Z MARRIED STILL HASN’T MATCHED HER TOTAL ALBUM SALES LMAO..
what hateful creature would say this? what rot of the earth? what dark abyss did a creature like this crawl from? is it even human?
Sorry.. But Alicia lost it a long time ago.. Where’s the songs in A minor girl that had this zest and fire?
She stopped being hungry like a lot of artists do once they’ve had major success.
Imaging black folks shitting on other grown ass black folks. If you don’t have something good to say….kill yoself
She looks really good here !
Ok im buying this new concious alicia she had “deep songs” on all her past albums the problem is there is no markert for a whole album with deep songs her formula has been working I suggest sticks to it
In common would be way better stripped down, give me them raw vocals. Like if I ain’t got you with little piano melody. and the make up thing could work for her if she would stop trying use it to promote this album and just give us the emotion that’s missing
she look so sexually attractive, and i don’t man this in a disrespectful way.
Honestly i dont like the new Alicia at all she just jumped in the natural/nappy trend…
There is so many way of loving yourself wearing make up it’s just to embelish yourself you don’t have to put make up on 24/7.
Makeup exists for a reason. No need to be ashamed in using it. Her movement is just creating negative sentiments towards makeup and people who enjoy using it.
Nice style
