Apple Music Exec Denies Rumors Of TIDAL Purchase

Are they? Aren’t they?

Each week brings with it fresh talk of a TIDAL buyout.

A series of potential purchasers have been tied to the struggling Jay Z platform, none more so than rival Apple Music.

Industry whispers have long lingered with word of the tech giant acquiring the service, which Jigga bought for $56 million just last year.

With fresh data revealing small gains but large losses for the company, various sources suggest Apple may gearing up to take a sizeable bite of their distant competition.

Or are they?

Because in a new interview, they claim the situation couldn’t be any more different.

Details below…

Speaking to BuzzFeed News, Apple Music head  Jimmy Iovine said of the TIDAL takeover…

“We’re really running our own race. We’re not looking to acquire any streaming services.”

Interesting.

It does make one wonder what will become of the service, which boasts a number of notable co-owners such as Rihanna, Kanye West, Madonna, and Nicki Minaj.

Sure, it’s made strides and currently boasts over 4 million paid subscribers.

Yet, beyond Apple clocking in at 17 million and and Spotify at 40 million, the key point here is that their bases are growing at a rapid rate. One that TIDAL will struggle to ever compete with.

What’s more, with some of TIDAL’s co-owners flirting with Apple (i.e. Alicia Keys performing at their festival and Kanye allegedly dropping his joint LP with Drake there), change of some sort looks to be on the horizon.

Other murmurs carry theories that Spotify could make the buy and establish a new tier to their service featuring TIDAL acts in a “powered by Spotify” capacity. While there’s also been talk of Samsung, who’ve already teamed with Jay and co for Rihanna’s ‘ANTI,’ heavily investing, auto-installing TIDAL across their wide base, and using it as their vehicle to officially re-enter the streaming arena.

Time will tell.

Y would they need tidal lol

  3. Jay Jay September 15, 2016

Wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung acquired Tidal just to compete against apple

Samsung milk music was a hot ass mess. They should have no business in streaming if that was what they were offering.

TIDAL is so annoying. Sh*t all this exclusivity bs regarding album releases (see Rihanna, Bey, Frank and now, Usher) is such a turn-off because as a fan, all I care for is just the music. I know the music industry is a business at the end of the day but I like to stay relatively naive to that. I mean, TIDAL reportedly lost $28 million in the last year.

Tbh They should have a deal with Samsung , so they can incorporate it on their device in the music app just like Apple is doing .
I liked Tidal , but it was annoying to not have all my music in the same app .
And once its done , the owner artists should all stick together and be commited just like Beyoncé did only iTunes , Amazon and co and only available to stream on Tidal . Cause being all over the place do not work , all that for a top 5 Billboard spot all these owners should not care about a billboard 200 spot but about money and legacy . I hate exclusive deal but as long as it’s not banned they should do it right.

And please spare yourself with the ” having your album everywhere brings in money too ” yeah sure but bringing more clients to one place will bring more . Especially for those owner that don’t write/co write their own lyrics .

I have Tidal, I support Tidal…. They need better marketing and more offers. And I agree, Kanye and Alicia toying with Apples looks very dumb. I also believe that Usher dropped his album early just so that it can go to Apple Music tomorrow. Lemonade is the only Tidal exclusive if you ask me.

I don’t get the hate for Tidal, do the people not realize their BLACK favs made a venue for ARTISTS to make more money and produce better promo and such? People often complain about nothing “black” owned so why not support a black business? So damn stupid, its not bad and the audio quailty is 100x better than the rest of the streaming services. There is a student (4.99), Standard (about 8-10) and premium (19.99) options. Y’all been brainwashed to follow the other streaming services blindly like cows to the slaughter house. You will buy their clothes, you would buy merch that they endorse but wont invest in a service they made to better black music as whole? Bye

Tidal will be fine, However I dont use it… But im sure a larger company has its eyes set on acquiring it. Tidal as a company has dont most the hard work over the last couple of years. People know the name, and now a Larger Name needs to rebrand it.
