As the day of ‘Redemption’ nears (Nov 18th), songstress Dawn Richard continues to demonstrate her wide-spanning skill-set.
For, though the queen of hearts’ vocals reign over the high-energy beats of indie EDM, she may have a tactic to conquer the colorful world of animation too.
Though mum on whether it’s tied to the her LP, the NOLA native has teased a trailer for an animated short film; one produced in partnership with Adult Swim.
Take a peek…
Little is known about the project in the way of specifics. But it’s clear Richard is taking it seriously. Perhaps even more than her music.
Why, one may wonder?
Last month, she spoke candidly with Vogue, disclosing uncertainty about continuing her music career as her album trilogy series will be completed upon the release of ‘Redemption.’ She said:
“I don’t know if I’m going to do this music sh*t after this.”
Speaking earlier to Rolling Stone about her artistic leanings, she said:
“I’m excited to go back to animation: I started in animation with my own comics and drawing, and even the Danity Kane name came from a character I created in high school.
I find there is a lack of diversity in animation and comic writers and wanted to shed light on how many black illustrators, writers, and designers we have.”
Kudos to Dawn.
She’s lost a little of the buzz that followed offerings such as ‘Bombs’ and ‘Dance,’ but there’s no denying her hustle.
How many of these other girls are out here creating animations?
