Jennifer Lopez Readies New Album / Ex Husband Is Exec Producer

Published: Thursday 6th Oct 2016 by Sam

Forget Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, because Jennifer Lopez is taking “consciously uncoupling” to new levels of civility.

For, the sassy siren has enlisted her ex-husband to executive produce her new album.

Billboard reports that J.Lo’s next offering will be a Spanish LP, which will be moulded by ex husband Marc Anthony.

A single is said to be due in November, while the project itself will hit retail in 2017.

The as yet untitled record will be Lopez’s first all-Spanish effort since 2007’s ‘Como Ama Una Mujer.’ That album debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200 and, at the time, was only the 5th Spanish-language release to premiere in the top 10 of the all-genre chart. Anthony also produced that LP.

Interestingly, despite the diva signing with Epic Records earlier this year, cousin-label Sony Music Latin will take charge of the new project.

The 47-year-old performer has, throughout the course of her career, always spotlighted her Latin heritage. Case in point cuts such as ‘On The Floor’ and ‘Ain’t It Funny.’ There’s also the collaborations with Wisin y Yandel, Ricky Martin, and Prince Royce.

Speaking on the new venture, the singer said in a statement:

“I am so excited and really looking forward to this new musical journey and to celebrate my Latin roots with Marc Anthony and the Sony/Magnus family.”

Anthony added:

“[Jennifer] has had enormous accomplishments in her career and has been representing our culture all over the world from day one. Her artistry, professionalism and passion for music are just some of the many attributes that have earned her a unique place in the entertainment world that very few people have been able to obtain. I am looking forward to our creative collaboration and to be part of continuing her musical legacy.”

Afo Verde, Chairman & CEO, Latin America, Spain and Portugal, Sony Music Entertainment concluded…

“Jennifer is one of the most iconic Latina superstars of all time and a longtime member of the Sony family. We’re very excited to partner with her and Marc on a project that is all about spotlighting her spirit and soul.”

We’re all for it, although we’re scratching our heads at why she pulled the trigger with ‘Ain’t Your Mama’ this summer if there wasn’t to be any follow-through.

The track, while not a hit in the US, was a major success in many South American and European territories – despite no push.

In hindsight, perhaps said success served as the catalyst for her to veer outside her usual market to more squarely target those actually buying her music? Who knows.

We just hope an English language follow-up to 2014’s ‘A.K.A’ is on the cards for next year too.
