Lauryn was already the best selling female rapper of all time. Missy is in second place because 5 of her albums actually sold over 1 m copies and one is double platinum. Just because streaming was added doesn’t mean Nicki is the second best selling. Her (Nicki) albums only got multiplatinum awards because of streaming not sales.. streaming saved her career
Different era, different market. Even when Nicki debuted on the mainstream, the sales climate for albums was considered to be in the dumps because everybody was buying singles, now sales in general are basically dead. The handful of contemporary artists that can sell albums don’t actually move that many copies when compared to the artists from the 90s who had a comparable level of notoriety. Taylor would’ve had at least 1 Diamond plaque, Adele’s 21 would’ve possibly been the highest selling female album of all time, and everybody would be going at least platinum within the first month easily just like basically every popular artist at the time had the market remained the same. The highest selling albums this year haven’t even sold 2 million copies this year in the US, the biggest music market, and going platinum in sales is now an almost impossible feat for about 99% of music artists while in the 90s platinum was a bare minimum standard for a majority of popular artists and considered a flop if you were well established in the mainstream.
The only album that was upped by streaming is pink print. Pink Friday sold two million. Roman reloaded shipped one million. Pink print sold around 800000 without streams anyway. Do your research. Not to mention she’s sold 65 million without streams.

I think you guys are getting albums and records confused. Albums are ACTUAL ALBUM sales. and RECORDS are albums, single’s, ringtones, live sets, and EP’s released ect. NICKI HAS SOLD MORE RECORDS. NOT ALBUMS. Im not a huge Nicki fan but she was on fire when she first hit big mainstream.

I honestly feel like Queen Lauryn is THE MOST talented female rapper that ever existed! She’s the sole example of how an artist can have such an impact with only ONE album that they’re able to become legendary! It’s nice to see Nicki paying homage! In my book, that respect is coming from a very skilled and qualified raptress of today’s music scene.

Nicki still sold well for a female artist without streaming. Her first album basically sold close to two million & the second one sold almost a million. Adele’s “21” has sold nearly 12 million copies. That’s more than many many many albums back then. Taylor’s last album sold more than many previous albums as well. Some artists can do it. There’s a handful of artists that can sale…. Everything isn’t always about a certain era….
