Bruno Mars has billed new album ’24k Magic’ as one big party.
Now, after one day at retail, it’s becoming clear just how many have answered his invitation.
The first week predictions for the set are here and await after the jump…
According to Hits Daily Double the set is on-course to open within the top 3 of the Billboard 200 with the following numbers:
150,00-160,000 (Sales Plus Streaming)
110,000 – 120,000 (Pure Sales
The LP, which is preceded by its title track as a lead single, is currently being outpaced by Rock icons Metallica (260k) and Country singer Miranda Lambert (145-155k).
*************
Wow.
This is sure to set tongues a’wagging.
On the one hand, Bruno has never been a sales titan first week. A fact evidenced by the 192k opening of 2012’s ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ and the 55k premiere for his first LP ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ in 2010. Those releases were steady sellers, with both selling 6 million each worldwide.
The big difference this time is that Mars headed into this era with two Super Bowl Halftime Show‘s under his belt, a number of Grammy wins, and a Diamond certified smash named ‘Uptown Funk.’
All realities that would naturally lead folk to assume he’d sell more out of the gate. Much more.
Of course, there’s still a whole lot of promo to come, including tomorrow night’s AMAs, Carpool Karaoke, and the Victoria’s Secret Show in Paris.
Will they collectively be enough to keep the sales coming heading into the Holiday season?
Stay tuned!
