Scribbled in history books for some good and not-so-good reasons, 2016 brought with it some of modern music’s most memorable moments.
Now, as the year draws to a close, TGJ is reflecting on 31 moments that rocked – and to some degree shaped – the Urban and Pop musical landscape as we know it.
We continue our royal stroll down memory lane as King of Pop Michael Jackson tops the highest posthumous earners’ list for the fourth year in a row…
The King of Pop continues his reign even beyond the grave.
That’s right, for the fourth straight year Michael Jackson has topped the annual list of “top-earning dead celebrities” – a feat that sees him surpass the earnings of fellow musical icons Elvis Presley, Prince, Whitney Houston, David Bowie, and more.
According to Forbes magazine, Jackson, who died in 2009, raked in $825m in earnings for the 12 months ending on the 1st of October. That came mostly from the Jackson estate’s $750m sale of the late singer’s remaining stake in the Sony/ATV music publishing catalog – which includes the rights to many Beatles songs – to Sony Corporation.
That handsome sum makes him the highest paid entertainer dead or alive.
