Bruno Mars certainly has the American Music Awards to thank for rubbing some of its magic on his newest album, ‘24K Magic.’
The opus, originally projected to sell as little as 110,000 its first week, surged in sales after his show-stopping set at the annual awards’ show. Nearly doubling industry analysts’ predictions by the time its inaugural tallying week was over, the commercial performance of the project even saw Mars’ name added to history books due to buyer response on iTunes.
Finishing with his highest first week sales ever at 231,000 SPS (194,000 pure sales), Bruno-fever was so high his first two albums – ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ and ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ – both saw boosts in sales as well. Tuck in below to find out where all three of his projects landed on this week’s refreshed ‘Chart Check’:
Good job Bruno! As a new fan im proud n i can tell he’s gonna have long gevity in this industry … he takes his craft seriously .. he is also well grounded! Much props! love da Album! on Repeat!
Now, in the second week, he is predicted to drop -80% in overall sales & streaming to which his total will be under 80K units.
.
It’s unfortunate but I’m not surprised.
.
Nonetheless, congratulations for this debut.
It is kinda surprising that he’s not a streaming monster. Especially when he debuted this decade.
Its simple to understand why .. He releases REAL MUSIC .. in which no one listen to or understands .. they want generic popcorn mess .. smh sad state we are in!
It isn’t surprising at all. The matter of fact remains that not everybody is going adapt well into the current streaming era.
.
The proof of a “streaming force” lies in their catalogue streams and Mars has never had good catalogue streams; to date, his most successful song on ‘SPOTIFY’ is ‘Uptown Funk’ however he isn’t on the songs lead billing so he only receives half the credit for it in actuality.
.
Take Lady Gaga or Ke$ha for example, they debuted the same year as Katy Perry and their catalogue streams and streaming power is absolutely atrocious compared to the latter. Then there’s Beyonce’ whose career debuted in the same time frame as Britney Spears’ & Christina Aguilera overall (excluding her solo career) – her catalogue streams and success on streaming, as a whole, are lightyears ahead. Then there’s Justin Bieber who debuted in the same time frame as Bruno Mars and his collective streaming stats. are exponentially bigger.
Streaming is good for the CHARTS but NOT good for the artists. Artists who are “streaming forces” are getting screwed when it comes to their royalties being paid to them. Hence, why Beyoncé’s album can only be streamed on Tidal. These artists need to WAKE up.
^@KING B.
The Filipino/Puerto Rican stallion!!!
Streaming isn’t all that, when you can move actual albums. That’s better. If you can get some good streaming numbers in there then cool.
No shame in Bruno coming second to Metallica. They have a fanbase which still buys albums. Little Mix at #25. Even I didn’t think it would do that badly.
Damn! #2, though? Well, at least his tour will easily be one of the too grossing of next year. I can’t wait to see those short, thick, meaty legs gyrate and shake on that stage.
Bruno isn’t black but he is a brother of colour so this means a lot. So proud of him. He’s opening doors.
doors were already open, are u 10
COME THE F*CKKKK THROUGH METALICCA!!!
LEGENDS ARE LEGENDS ..
THEY CAN SH!T ON NOWADAYS ARTISTS WITHOUT ANY PROMO
THE NAME ITSELF. ENOUGH.
BRuno is trash compared to the #1.
Is that is his highest… I don’t wanna know the others
Heh. I’m glad Metallica beat him. Can’t stand Bruno. He’s corny as hell.
Good job for him
Come thru Bruno!! You better make r&b that black artists wouldnt see come close to the top of the charts.
You better call yourself a pimp and wear multiple gold chains, silk Versace, reference bad b****** and their ugly ass friends and take it to the top of the charts.
He is nothing new or original. Nothing many (black) artists haven’t done already. Only good thing is that he does well. Not a cheap an imitation. He’s a very expensive one! lol And I’ll throw in some points for him being a non black person of color (altho that’s his main appeal because it’s easier for the masses aka white folks to digest).
That Versace on the floor is my jam…Could not stand Uptown Funk though!
