The future of Fifth Harmony has yet to be determined following the controversial departure of a central member last month.

However, while the band’s fans await word on what’s next, Normani Kordei is keeping things moving.

Continuing her trend of hopping of hot tracks, the 20-year-old has unwrapped a majestic mash-up of Solange‘s ‘Don’t Touch My Hair’ and ‘Cranes In The Sky’. Both of which are lifted from her chart-topping album ‘A Seat At The Table.’

The move sees the popular starlet assert her solo gravitas – something 5H’s supporters were promised would be the case from the group’s remaining members following last month’s drama.

Take a listen to Normani’s latest cover below…

Come through Ms. Kordei!

Renown for her ability to blaze a stage, each of these covers are highlighting the versatility embedded in her. A reality which makes her solo prospects – as well as her contributions to the all-new Fifth Harmony – oh so exciting.

Normani is the most talented i am just afraid her skin color will count against her ….. you seldom see dark skinned girls make it big

    • Mashiyu January 5, 2017

      Dawn…

      • sleazy January 5, 2017

what about Dawn ? i dont even see Dawn go triple trash bag

      • camila January 5, 2017

thats comical… truly everyone only roots for some of the fifth harmony girls out of sympathy. dont get me wrong, normani sounds great but thats a stretch to say she’s the most talented when vocally she’s the weakest….. and y’all love to come for camila, but camila vocally shits on normani, even dinah have a better voice

      • jammy January 6, 2017

ew at Camila. What do you mean even dinah? Dinah is probably the most versatile singer and the best along with Lauren vocally. I just think Camila stands out because she sounds the most “unique”

    • Credits January 5, 2017

@camila. Camila’s Whiney tone isn’t coming for no one vocally.

      • sleazy January 6, 2017

i agree Camilla voice is whiney and stop saying Normani not the best vocally she has not even displayed her vocals like the others? i remember watching them perform better together and normani killing it. Normani parts in the songs arent always like the other girls. Overall Normani is the most talented girls in todays world vocals just aint enough

  2. #ispeakfacts January 5, 2017

But can she sing this LIVE without backing vocals??? She is not a strong vocalist she should work hard improving that area…. she is a beast when it comes to performing and stage presence! Other than that she good!

    • sleazy January 5, 2017

she is a good vocalist you dont follow the girls hey? you need to go look at her videos she will just get better with age

      • camila January 5, 2017

NO THE F*** SHE ISNT. like y’all must be this year fans, yall didn’t watch them from the beginning of the x factor

    • Melanin God January 5, 2017

I’d say canola was the worst vocal always pitchy and all over the place. Normani is the best al around of the group best dancer really solid singer they never let her utilize her voice properly. I do believe her skin will work against im hoping not I hope her solo material is hot and not just some trap s*** I want her to give us some Aaliyah/ Ashanti material!

  3. Beyoncé Jackson January 5, 2017

She’s way too typical. There’s nothing that distinguishes her from the hundreds of other pop/R&B girls who are trying to make it.

    • Bookbook January 5, 2017

You could have said the same thing abt Rih when she first started. But with the right ppl she can make it

      • Beyoncé Jackson January 5, 2017

Rihanna wasn’t typical at all. Her tone, her look, her accent and island influences all separated her when she first came out. When you hear Rihanna, you know it’s her. This girl looks and sounds like everybody else.

  4. IDONOTREPLY2TROLLz January 5, 2017

She will be the next to follow after that Ariana Grande comparison that left recently. Don’t know her name lol

    • camila January 5, 2017

SHE CANT EVEN SING THAT GREAT TO COMPARE HER TO ARIANA

      • IDONOTREPLY2TROLLz January 5, 2017

That’s it Camila…I don’t even know how she sings TBH. Not a fan like that. But if you say so then I agree. I like Ariana FYI.

  5. JEC2 January 5, 2017

Her voice is way below average. She is the 2nd weakest member in my opinion. Very basic. like Ciara without the beauty and moves.

    • sleazy January 5, 2017

Bish Ciara basic ? hahaha one thing about CIARA she may not sell like she use to but basic she aint

      • #ispeakfacts January 5, 2017

        @sleazy

Ciara’s vocals is VERY BASIC!!! It’s even gotten worser as she age!

    • TRUTH SERUM January 5, 2017

This girl sing and is beautiful to boot!!! That voice is getting stronger and stronger. She already has the craziest range. I see a star!!!!

  6. camila January 5, 2017

exactly!! normani vocally compares to ciara…. but all i’ll say is this… since everyone is happy that camila is out, lets see how far this group goes with “y’all” support of them now that the “chipmunk” has left. y’all and this sympathy for the other girls is insane, camila had the best voice, and thats why she stuck out

    • #ispeakfacts January 5, 2017

Dinah always had the best voice she just lacks confidence

    • Melanin God January 5, 2017

No canola had the weirdest Voice and was the loudest and always off key that’s why she stood out. I’d say Normani was rightnin the middle with the best voice behind Dinah and sosmetimes lauren when she had her s*** together. Don’t descredit or overlook Normani b/c of her skin get it together she slays stands out.

    • Rihboy January 5, 2017

To Ciara? ???? the stretch is real!!!

  7. Danny January 5, 2017

    She’s absolutely beautiful!

  8. meme January 5, 2017

I always left Camilla was the strongest overall of the girls. She wasn’t my fav but IMHO the only one who I can see having a chance at solo stardom. I am a fan of normani, I really am. But she wouldn’t stan a chance in this crazy industry. Just look at Justine Sky, Tinashe, dawn and Sevyn. All beautiful and talented SMH.

  9. B_Roni January 5, 2017

The girl can sing. I was watching her before she was on X factor and even afterwards. I still remember her Beyonce what goes around cover.

  10. Tori January 5, 2017

Reading the comments first then listening to the song. And y’all compare this girls vocals to Ciara?…And I genuinely like Ciara but now. Her vocal performance comes not even close. And her range is not wide enough to be compared to Ariana’s, who still hasn’t found her voices personality because she still sound like the love child of Mariah and Tamar. I think it’s very clear if babygirl went solo she wouldn’t stand a chance because of the general public being ass wholes who beg for new artist but tear them down when they debut.

  11. Dangelo M January 5, 2017

People in here smoking crack or something?
This was a fantastic cover! She hit notes in these covers that sologne can’t even hit. She showed so much versatility in this, going from her lower register all the way up to the whistle notes at the end.

someone questioned her beauty, REALLY? This girl is stunning, dark skin and all..

She hit notes that Ciara and co could never hit (and she can do it live, including the whisper notes) no shade to Ciara. All Normani needs is a good team behind her, some more vocal lessons and practice to fine tune everything, some good producer/writers and she can make it this industry without a doubt.

  12. Mark111 /.\ January 5, 2017

She’s going to be a star, one she always have the best parts on the songs, two she can dance, she sings well and look different from the rest. She’ll be the perfect blend of R&B/Pop/Urban. People are saying her skin color will be a problem, that’s crazy, the reason these other R&B girls are flopping is because they all work with the same current writers/producers and are LAZY. Mark my words, she’s going to be huge if they market her to pop and r&B radio and not just urban.

  13. Danzou January 5, 2017

Her whistle notes and falsetto will get her far. What she lacks in power and range she makes up for with those two.

  14. RoyalKev January 5, 2017

Wow, nice arrangement! I really don’t care for Fifth Harmony too much, but I’m always glued to Normani every time I’ve watched them perform! Her stage presence is so strong! I won’t lie, Camila actually seems to come in 2nd behind her in that department! I just don’t care for her voice much! As solo acts, I’d probably only be drawn to Normani (and Lauren with the right music)! I am starting to believe she has an ear for music already so far! I found myself appreciating a lot of her input on 5H’s singles! I think developing her stylistic approach to her own unique sound can take her far!

  15. Lewey January 5, 2017

Did she just hit the whistle register at the end? COME ALL THE WAY THREW, Normani!!!!! She looks so good, too. I really do hope she is successful cause the chocolate sista’s never get to where they belong in this business.

  16. sleazy January 6, 2017

Camilla is nasaly and thats not everybody cup of tea. I like her she is a cute girl but her voice gets annoying

  17. JustCoastWitHa January 6, 2017

so goooooddd!! tried that Mariah whistle at the end tho lmao. but I lived

  18. Kahari January 7, 2017

First, allow me to preface my comment by saying that this is my first comment on ThatGrapeJuice since like, 2011 since the Caribbean boy and Sam fell out and TGJ’s content slumped and became all about click-baiting users, demeaning musical opinions in favor of what’s popular and igniting Stan wars under the comment section. I generally try to exercise restraint these days and use wisdom to know the difference.

Fifth Harmony’s rise to stardom is like a Cinderella story. 5 ordinary girls with ordinary vocal capabilities were constructed together to pursue their musical endeavors as a unit. Their stint on the X-Factor from what I remember was like an uphill battle as they were bombarded with critiques from LA Reid and Demi Lovato in terms of vocality, production, and gelling as a group. However, they were the underdogs of the season and a clear fan favorite. After finishing the semi-finals in 3rd Place, Simon Cowell and LA Reid immediately signed the ladies. Fast forward to 2016, with vocal point Camila Cabello’s departure now a thing of the past in the turn of the new year, we have new members flexing their solo vocal exertion.

Granted the history of the creation of this group, it is indeed something mechanically manufactured, so each individual creating solo material to feed their internal desires seems reasonable. Here we have Normani Kordei, light voice glimmering with rhythmatic roots in contemporary soul. Though her voice is very sweet and light, there’s a vocal frondescence in her overall sound—she has access to the whistler register and compliment songs with the dark part of her vocal range. She doesn’t shout, her sound isn’t harsh or too belty, she runs along the same lines of Jhene Aiko, Amerie, Ashanti, and all those other thin voiced girls who sweetly coo with great material.

As far as racism within the music industry as it relates to her pending success as an artist, I think that whenever Black bodies deviates from Caucasian beauty standards, it becomes glossed over and relegated. We cannot pretend that this is not real. Mind you, this is the same young lady who was VICIOUSLY attacked by pubescent teens (and adults alike) with racial slurs and photoshopped images of her face on a lynched body because she didn’t use a more dynamic set of words to describe a fellow group member. Majority of the music companies that are in existence are ran by white executives, but music is supposed to be an art form that is meant to break down barriers rather than building them up, but once you have people who continue to speculate, doubt, or question your existence as an overall being, there’s a disconnect in the humanity that music has. Music is subjective for sure, but what matters most is when you are able to touch the hearts of those who are readily listening.
