Hot 100: Rihanna Breaks Major Michael Jackson & Madonna Billboard Records

Published: Wednesday 22nd Feb 2017 by Rashad

The last month has been very kind to Rihanna.

Barring that whole Grammy fiasco, the songstress – who celebrated her 29th birthday on February 20th – kicked the month off by learning her latest single, ‘Love on the Brain,’ was officially certified platinum.  As if that’s not enough, this week the song ascended to the top 10 of the Hot 100.  The upward move not only granted her third trip into the tally’s upper dectet from the ‘Anti’ project alone, but it also came as a historic achievement for her (whose Hot 100 resume knows few equals).

In fact, proof of this comes just 1 year after she broke King of Pop Michael Jackson‘s Hot 100 #1s record , she’s now unseated his record-setting top 10’s record.  Get the details inside:

Rihanna’s ‘Love on the Brain,’ which moved to #8 this week, comes as her 30th top 10 hit on the Hot 100.  Moving her past Michael Jackson’s 29 career top 10 hits, Rih becomes the first and only artist of color to have amassed at least 30 entries into the Hot 100’s top 10.

As if tugging at the King of Pop’s Billboard throne wasn’t enough, the accomplishment also snatches a title from Queen of Pop Madonna.

Notably, Rihanna sports the second-fastest accumulation of 30 Hot 100 top 10s (from an act’s first-ever week in the region to the first week in the tier with its 30th). Having first hit the top 10 with “Pon De Replay” on the July 16, 2005-dated chart, she needed 10 years, seven months and two weeks to tally 30 top 10s.

While she’s the leader for the most Hot 100 top 10s, Madonna took 12 years, eight months and two weeks from her first top 10, “Borderline,” to her 30th, “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” (June 16, 1984-March 1, 1997)…

To sum it up, as of this week Rihanna is:

  • First artist of color to have 30 career top 10 hits on the Hot 100
  • Fastest accumulator of 30 career top 10 hits on the Hot 100 among solo artists (male or female)
    • Only The Beatles did it faster

Add to this, she is already:

  • The only artist to have a #1 single from 7 consecutive albums
  • The only female artist of color to have a #1 single this decade
    • Solo & as a featured artist
  • Countless other Hot 100 achievements we can’t even begin to name

There is no other way to spin it:  that Rihanna reign just won’t let up!
