Liam Payne is the latest One Direction member to make a beeline for solo success.
Cue his debut solo single ‘Strip That Down.’
Featuring assistance from the omnipresent Quavo (from Migos), the track is a slickly produced slice of Urban-Pop that aims to place Payne in the thick of what’s hot.
Pulling no punches lyrically, the song sees the new father sing lines such as “I used to be in 1D now I’m free” and “when I step in club all girls on me.”
Clearly, someone’s feeling fleeky.
Take a listen below…
An obvious ear-worm, this has an obvious (and borderline contrived) radio agenda. And we’re not convinced the lyrics are totally “him” either.
But the song just about manages to avoid cringe territory holistically.
Not bad, yet not great either.
Its incoming video could determine whether this swims to success or sinks prematurely.
zzzzzzzzzzzz
I mean it’s a cute song…
Very Ed Sheeran
Very JT meets shaggy to me. Funny thing is I thought Niall and Louis would be the ones struggling after the break as they have the weakest voices but it might be Liam.
That try hard DJ mustard beat is played out. A little too late. He looks like a hot version of Chris Crocker?
He doesn’t have the “swagger” in his tone to pull this off. Very corny surburban father who just got a hall pass from wifey. Eh. Good luck though!
Trying the same route as Cheryl basically then.
I don’t even check for him cos he comes across as arrogant but i can’t deny a good catchy pop R&B club banger and this is a good fun summer club smash and if he brings it in the video with that hot body his rocking right now, yo he might just have a surprise smash!
When you want to be Ed Sheeran but end up more Ed Balls . This song is beyond basic and involves no vocal talents what so ever. So far out of all the 1D members this is the worst song.
Whatsup it everyone and migos boys
These black artist needs to start watch out for these white artist that only want to use us or our culture when they want a hype, and when they reach where they’re going they talk about how it was the worst decision and they never want to remember it.
I don’t know him.
Zayn really released the best first single
This is really weak. Zayn was always naturally an Urban act. His voice always sounded better suited to RnB and he even professed a love for it while in 1D. This just smacks of band wagon jumping, Liam is better suited to Michael Bublé style MOR material. Also, not sure how we’re supposed to believe the collaboration with Quavo is remotely organic.
