Katy Perry Apologises For Appropriating Black And Asian Culture

Published: Sunday 11th Jun 2017 by David

Katy Perry has revealed that she is deeply sorry for engaging in cultural appropriation.

During the live streamed launched to promote her #1 album ‘Witness‘, the Pop princess came clean during a conversation with DeRay McKesson about the bad habit and revealed how and why she was able to stop it.

Her admission makes her one of the first Pop purveyors to address the problem head on publicly after the rapper Iggy Azalea saw her career derailed by criticism she faced for the same thing in 2014.

So, why millions around the world are against cultural appropriation?

Katy Perry looks like an out of touch teacher trying to relate to the black youth. This was hilariously terrible. — IV:XX Hotep Doobs (@DOEDoobs) May 21, 2017

Didn’t need to, everyone copies other cultures, whites copy blacks, blacks copy whites, Asians copy whites, white copy Asians, it’s called influence, the result of living in a multicultural society, ever wonder why this more often happens in places where people of different backgrounds live?….They influence each other, it’s normal, the US is a melting pot, so is the U.K, this will never end, on the other hand, you will never see this happen in homogeneous places, like Eastern Europe or Iceland.

Not a good example, American music has impact in almost every nation in th world, the Russian music market is pretty small, despite Russia having a population of 144 million people, a few Russian wannabe rappers (most of them inspired by EMINEM) means nothing and has no impact on Russian society, most of them are mocked by Russians themselves, same happens in Italy, which is a little less homogeneous than Russia. What happens in the US is very different, is a permanent situation, while the case you posted won’t go anywhere, it will disappear until the next American trend comes to Russia, we can’t call that cultural appropriation, since Russians don’t associate that with a particular set of people (AA), they think of Rap/Hip Hop as an American thing, rather than an African American thing, unlike white Americans who live with AA and know that they are taking advantage of something that does not belong to them, that’s the difference.

INFLUENCE is: “My music was influenced by both historically black genres such as jazz and hip hop, and Japanese culture. The music, look and aesthetic of my work hints at these inspirations, but the decision is ultimately mine and you can see the blend of the two perspectives to create a more progressive conversation.”
APPROPRIATION is: “I love black and asian people so I want to get cornrows (while “nappy hair” is used as facet of derogatory Black stereotype”) and wear a kimono (also used as a negative stereotype against Asians being submissive).”

Influence comes in every form, music, fashion, hairstyles etc…All these things influence people, especially when people of different backgrounds live in one place. The US is the perfect example of this, you got black people straightening their hair (and don’t come to me with that black people were told their hair was ugly bs), white people getting cornrows, blacks and whites eating Mexican and Asian food, all this is the result of influence, things that we see daily and have an impact on us because our culture, American culture is a mix of European, African and Native American traditions, nowadays Asian and Latino traditions are already adding colors to the picture and every other group of people that comes here will have its role in it too, like I said, is the result of multicultural societies. It’s something inevitable.

      Thread winner.

@s****** bomb…..Black people can’t copy a culture that has been imposed on them! We didn’t have the luxury to forego the use of english, practice christianity, and other European ideals because it was violently inflicted upon us. As far as your suggestion that black women are straightening their hair by choice, that is partly true, because ultimately it is their decision to wear their hair how they see fit; however, there’s potential ramifications involved. For example, black women in the military, and corporate America are prohibited from wearing Afro textured hair because it’s deemed as unprofessional; as a result, for many black women, hair can be the difference between obtaining/keeping a job, or being terminated. there are several studies to support this claim, and besides that, I was in the military so I know! In addition to that, there are young black girls in public schools across America being expelled for wearing braids and Afros, SO YES M*********** I AM GOING TO COME AT YOUR IGNORANT-DELUSIONAL-WHITE-ASS FOR ATTEMPTING TO IGNORE THE REAL PROBLEMS OF RACE THAT EXIST NOT ONLY IN AMERICA—BUT THE WORLD OVER! White people continue to commodify culture from other races for profit! That’s not called INFLUENCE (as you would like for the majority of the ill-informed to believe); IT’S CALLED EXPLOITATION! It’s important that you be educated on the differences!!!!!!!!!!!

This is such BS I don’t even know where to begin. We live in a multicultural society and there will always be people who will want to wear a certain hairstyle or type of dress from another culture. Secondly, with Katy Perry we’re talking about cornrows and qipaos. Let’s not act like there’s some deep spiritual meaning to some goddamned braids and a Chinese dress! And since when do you need permission from somebody else to wear what the hell you want to in the land of the free?! Who gets to decide what kind of hairstyle is acceptable for your race? The negroes on Twitter?! GTFOH! When are ya’ll gone drag Janet for using Asians in the “If” video? How about Michael using Egyptian culture in “Remember the Time?” And I specifically remember African Americans tellin’ Sean Paul to have a seat after he called out Drake for using Island culture and music. Are you saying these rules only apply to Whites?

    This is ridiculous
