Can Katy Perry catch a break?
The singer’s new album ‘Witness’ may have opened at #1 on this week’s Billboard 200. However, it’s staying power looks virtually non-existent.
It’s been little over a week since the problem-prone LP hit stores and it’s already enroute to the bottom of the iTunes tally.
As at writing the project sits at #50 on the US store:
For what it’s worth, a horde of albums were slashed in price – which explains one aspect of the the drop.
However, it’s worth noting that SZA‘s ‘CTRL’ – which came out the same day – currently sits at #21 amidst all the discounted LPs.

Wow! Feel so bad for Katie! This era just wasn’t good at all. If the first single was POPPIN, that’d be one thing. Atleast it climbed to #4. It just wasn’t a wise first or 2nd single. Also, people not feeling the non-dark hair Katie. This entire era was a mess.
She picked the wrong singles. If most ppl would listen to it before judging they would see it’s a solid piece of work
It doesn’t work like that. You have to put out a hit single to motivate people tikis ten to the album. Most people won’t pay to stream or download an album free if there is no hit single.
This era’s done, but I will give it to Katy Perry for going full tilt to promote this album.
its actually a good album. one more grown and reflective not so teeny as her previous. All she needs to do now is to use them to create a wonderful show on tour. That where the real test is.
Also she released the songs on youtube so of course her numbers are going to be down. I think she is focusing on the tour that’s to come so she wants everyone to be familiar with the songs. If done right this era can mark a landstone for her in the evolution of her music

The streaming kings are Drake, who just made $94 million, King Abel ($92 million) and JB ($83.5 million)…the Canadians are pop’s biggest success story! Katy tried to look like Just One Of The Guys, but nobody was here for her…

There was a number of missteps. First, it was a bad move to copy Miley Cyrus’ hairstyle; it came across as derivative. Second, she made a big hoopla about “purposeful pop” and then delivered music that engaged with politics and social issues in an extremely inane and superficial manner: “So comfortable, we live in a bubble, a bubble / So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, the trouble.” Come on. Third, she should not have engaged with Taylor Swift AT ALL.

She has too focused on beefing with Taylor instead of Ma great songs. Oh well.
But iTunes isn’t the main chart. Perhaps her physical sales will keep her afloat. She should discount the album..

BTW: Borde’s album isn’t that bad. I actually liked 3 songs from it, unlike Payola Heroine.
