Cardi B‘s ‘Bodak Yellow’ ain’t just helping her make money moves, but it’s assisting with some impressive chart moves too. That’s right, just as we reported last week, the ‘Love & Hip Hop’ starlet’s breakout single could very well be on its way to breaking records if the steam behind it continues at the rate it has.
We’ve already told you that once it hit #28 it made her the first artist from the VH1 franchise to have a solo top 30 hit (since its inception in 2011), but now – thanks to a lofty leap to #8 on this week’s refreshed Hot 100 – the song treads on new territory…
Here are a few interesting stats:
- 3rd female rapper this century to enter Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 with a solo hit (behind Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliott)
- 1st female rapper since Iggy Azalea‘s 2014 hit ‘Fancy’ to crack the top 10 with a debut chart entry (not to be confused with debut single)
- Fastest trip to the top 10 for a debut single by a female artist (of any genre) since 2014’s megahit ‘All About That Bass’ by Meghan Trainor
And, if stats from Billboard are anything to judge by, the song is by no means on its way to slowing down. The Music Bible reports:
Streaming accounts for nearly three-quarters of the Hot 100 points for “Yellow,” as it charges 6-2 on Streaming Songs (31.4 million, up 28 percent, good for the Hot 100’s top Streaming Gainer award for a second straight week). It also rises 20-15 on Digital Song Sales (23,000, up 8 percent) and roars onto Radio Songs at No. 36 (32 million, up 47 percent). On Hot Rap Songs, it hikes 5-2.
