For much of Mariah Carey‘s early career, the songbird rocked gowns that covered her from head-to-toe.
Now, after blossoming like a ‘Butterfly’ and experiencing ‘Emancipation,’ Mimi seems eager to flaunt her curves at every chance.
And it appears that desire grows more by the year.
Case in point her new PAPER magazine cover feature.
Rocking a barely there ensemble, the 47 year old leads the special Las Vegas issue which celebrates the entertainers currently rocking Sin City.
Carey recently wrapped her ‘#1 To Infinity’ special there, but will be back at The Colosseum in December for Christmas run of shows.

On Why She’s Doing Vegas:
“Well, I just thought it would be something in between albums, because now I’m working on a new album and new singles, and I just thought it was a great place to be able to be. Because I have twins [Moroccan and Monroe], who just turned six…to have them be in one place for a period of time rather than, like, touring for all that time [is great]. They go with me.”
On Who Makes Her Starstruck
“There’s always people who I admire and when I see them [I get starstruck]. The last time I saw Prince, he came to my dressing room. I had said I wanted to go visit him to say hello because we’ve met before.When he was living we had had lots of conversations, and he helped me through certain moments that were not easy. I don’t want to get too depressing, but I was having a conversation with Prince and then I looked around the room and I noticed that everyone in the room was looking up and staring like they couldn’t believe he was standing there. But I would always be a little bit starstruck [when] I [saw] Michael Jackson as well.”
On Having Diva Moments:
“Actually, I have had diva moments, and then people can’t handle it. I guess it’s a little intense, because I come from a true diva: My mother is an opera singer. And that’s a real diva, you know — Juilliard diva. And so other people that are like, ‘I’m a diva,’ it’s like, ‘Honey, you don’t know what a diva is, you didn’t grow up with my mom.’ [Laughs] And I mean it as a compliment, or I wouldn’t be the person I am without experiencing that. And so when people hear me say, like, ‘Dahling da da da da’ and talk that way, it’s kinda like I’m channeling my mother. Not that she says ‘dahling’ all the time, but like that voice is… it’s like I inadvertently do it, and I don’t do it to be disrespectful, I just do it and it just happens and it’s like, [in diva voice] ‘I don’t even know why.'”

Oh Mariah.
She’s long been in need of a reinvention and while some of these shots actually slay (in their own ludicrous kind of way), this is not the rebranding that the Comeback Dr ordered.
If there’s any solace, it’s that she says she’s working on new music. But her pacing these days, as she stacks up on her other ventures, doesn’t give us hope that any of it will come to fruition anytime soon.
