The diva sprung a surprise on the masses when she announced and released a remix to J. Balvin and Willy William‘s ‘Mi Gente’ in support of hurricane victims.
And though it’s only been a few hours since the track’s surprise arrival, it appears the proposition of “new Beyonce” and charity is proving attractive to the record-buying public.
As at writing, Queen Bey’s take on ‘Mi Gente’ sits at #1 on US iTunes – and its popularity bar lead is growing by the hour.
Could this replicate said charting on the Billboard Hot 100? Time will tell, but given that it’s been put in power rotation on major radio stations such as Z100 and is selling well with the original and remix versions, the climate is looking positive.
Should it hit pole position, it’ll be Bey’s first #1 single since ‘Single Ladies’ in 2008. For what it’s worth, all of her albums have achieved the feat.
