Fantasia Departs RCA Records / Readies Holiday Album ‘Christmas After Midnight’

Published: Wednesday 6th Sep 2017 by Sam

As the Holiday’s loom, it’s pastures new for Fantasia.

The vivacious vendor of Rock-Soul has taken flight from her longtime label home, RCA Records. A fact further cemented by her absence on their official site.

Sources close to the situation tell That Grape Juice that the parting was amicable and actually the fulfilment of her contract rather than anything arduous.

It does, however, bring to an end a relationship that dates back to her American Idol win. Indeed, Fantasia’s first three albums were released via J Records, while the following two were issued by RCA after J folded and its roster was absorbed into the Pop focal imprint.

Wasting no time releasing new material, Ms. Barrino is prepping a festive LP named ‘Christmas After Midnight.’

Due via indie label Concord, the set arrives October 6th.

Details, including a tracklist below…

Noted industry exec Ron Fair has been tapped as executive producer, having assumed the same role on the star’s 2016 effort ‘The Definition Of.’

This project will see the songbird put her soulful spin on twelve Christmas classics. They are…

1. This Christmas
2. Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto
3. The Snow Is Falling
4. Baby, It’s Cold Outside (ft. Cee Lo Green)
5. Jingle Bell Rock
6. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)
7. What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?
8. Merry Christmas Baby
9. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
10. Silent Night
11. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning
12. Hallelujah

‘Christmas After Midnight’ is already up for pre-order on Amazon.

The indie route has worked for some, yet blown up in the face of others.

We must say, though, that it’s a super smart play on Fanny’s part to explore this option with a themed release…first. Thereafter, that should help guide her route – indie or major – for her traditional R&B offerings.

Whatever happens, we’re hoping she finds the right fit that allows her undeniable talent to shine bright for all to see.

Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto. Blaque people need to aim higher

    • Dev September 6, 2017

Why? ghetto’s exist and people still for whatever reason still live there so why shouldn’t Santa visit.
I don’t understand why people are so ashamed about area’s of society and want to comment but with no offer of solution

      • Jasmine September 6, 2017

I agree Dev. With gentrification white people are moving to ghettos across the country.

      • Jasmine September 7, 2017

@Josh I did not say it was original. I said it was not a classic.

      • Joyce Cunningahm October 6, 2017

James brown recorded that songs on his christmas album many yrs ago. that’s an oldie but goodie christmas song, just like RMC, kurtis blow christmas songs classic and will never go out of style. congrats, Fantasia.

        Ghetto trash

    • Annette September 7, 2017

Last time I checked white people lived in the ghetto too. So I guess they should aim high as well. Right ?

      • Joyce Cunningahm October 6, 2017

the rap group Run DMC christmas album, they are lots of white people living in the ghetto, santa claus came to their house to.

  4. Jasmine September 6, 2017

LOL I don’t think “Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto” and “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning” are Christmas classics. I am looking forward to her album and I can’t wait to hear her song with Cee-Lo.

    • Josh September 7, 2017

Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto is a cover of James Brown’s 1968 Christmas song. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning may be a original song.

      • Pat September 7, 2017

Are you someone who lived under a rock? This is an original from the late great James Brown. I’m sure he’d be proud to have Fantaisa sing his song.

Everything she does, she pays about and I’m sure she will do nothing less than delivery!!!

Fantasia, keep God close and everything you do will be a blessing to others as it has been.

        BLESSINGS!!!

        Correction “she prays about”

If you guys weren’t stuck up Beyoncé and Jay Z ass all April, you would’ve known that her contract ran out in April and she walked, which she rightfully did! Fantasia deserved so much more, she never had to fight so damn hard to get an album out till she was moved to RCA. “Side Effects of You” need hell of promo and was full of single material. “The Definition of…” was trash but still, she should’ve fought tooth and nail to release a project.

    • Lynnn September 6, 2017

The Definition of….was acutally a great album. It was different from what her Fans expected but it was good. They failed to promote the album, per usual. I’m excited for this journey.

    • Joyce Cunningahm October 6, 2017

She’s at the breaking point, it’s time to move on. she gave J Records & RCA their money worth. God has something bigger and better for her.

  6. Achooo! September 6, 2017

    She looks good!

  7. Rashard Campbell September 6, 2017

im so happy i just pre order this is gonna be epic

  8. Ajm265 September 6, 2017

RCA is an awful record label all their artists should walk.

  9. Josh September 7, 2017

I’m glad Fantasia chose to leave RCA after her contract ran up. They didn’t do right by her. She has too much potential. I’m still waiting for her to go full-fledged rock. That’s the kind of music she should have been doing. I’m sorry but her voice is not R&B. It’s too gritty and edgy and bold. I feel like she is pick up where Tina Turner left off at. Both J Records and RCA Records was just limiting what she can really do. After American Idol, she was just thrown into the R&B genre. She also needs to do a Jazz album.

  10. Meteorite September 7, 2017

I need Christina Aguilera to leave RCA as well, they are not doing anything for her either.

  11. DanYiel Iman September 7, 2017

I’m excited about Fantasia new music!!

  12. Gee September 7, 2017

So happy for this new chapter in Fanny’s career. Sad how RCA does not promote their artists in the way they should.

  13. Kay September 7, 2017

I’m so excited about this Christmas album!!! So happy that she left RCA!!! Ugh…with her type of talent, she needs the right leadership and marketing at whatever label she’s on.

  14. Jacqueline Dovez September 7, 2017

Congratulations Tasia, you blow those pipes whoever you are with, everytime you open your mouth. I enjoy everything you say or sing. You are a beautiful songbird. Peace and many BLESSINGS to you and yours. Prayers are up for your brother.

    • Jacqueline Dov September 7, 2017

      Amen

  15. stan September 7, 2017

fantasia will always have a special place in my heart. the quality of her music is consistently good, but her marketing/promo leaves a lot to be desired.

  16. Casual September 7, 2017

Here for this! And I’m all about going independent now. If you’re on a major label, you have to sell huge to see a royalty check.

  17. Oscar September 7, 2017

    Outstanding…

  18. Annette September 7, 2017

I love Fantasia and will continue to buy her music. Love that she is spreading her wings.
