In hitting the top spot, Cardi becomes the first female rapper to top the Hot 100 chart solo in nearly 19 years. The last being Lauryn Hill’s ‘Doo Wop (That Thing),’ which reigned for two weeks in November 1998.
Cardi, born Belcalis Almanzar, becomes the fifth female rapper ever to lead the Hot 100 at all.
[Besides Hill, all of the other entries had features or were features. Case in point Lil’ Kim (‘Lady Marmalade’); Shawnna (on Ludacris’ ‘Stand Up)’, and Iggy Azalea (‘Fancy ft. Charli XCX).
The former ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ star is also the first female soloist to top the Hot 100 with a debut song sans a feature artist since Meghan Trainor‘s ‘All About That Bass’ in 2014.
So how did Cardi do it?
For the latest tracking week ‘Bodak’ amassed 46.4 million U.S. streams, 56,000 downloads, and 62 million all-format audience impressions at radio.
