Mariah Carey celebrated the 20th anniversary of her ‘Butterfly’ album this past week, but it appears she has bigger plans to mark the occasion.
Full story below…
Per Page Six, Mimi will embark on a ‘Butterfly World Tour’ next year.
Interestingly, the trek will be chronicled by VH1 for a new docuseries.
Said show will lean less theatrical than E!’s much-panned ‘Mariah’s World’ – which according to same report, won’t be coming back.
A source said:
“‘Mariah’s World’ was always planned to be an eight-part TV event. But now she is planning a huge world tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Butterfly’ to start early 2018. It will be similar to U2’s ‘Joshua Tree’ tour. VH1 is set to film a docuseries that will capture the behind-the-scenes of her tour.”
The tour is a fascinating concept if it’s what we think it is (see: performing the entire album top-to-bottom).
‘Butterfly’ was a real moment in Mariah’s career and was transformative in more ways than one.
Our only concern is for this “new” album she claims is coming soon. Plotting a tour for a 20 year old LP doesn’t sound like the kind of move to make when gearing up to promote new material.
Still, she’s outchea out here working and we’re not mad at that.
