Janet Jackson has notably shunned interviews in recent years and let her performances do all the talking.
However, the singer seized the moment to break her (relative) silence during a visit to her hometown of Gary, Indiana.
Taking a brief break from her State Of The World Tour, Janet and brother Randy stopped by Roosevelt High School and sat down for a Q&A with students and staff.
During the intriguing chat, Miss Jackson open up about her love for Bruno Mars (as well as the potential for a collaboration) and son Eissa – who is now 10 months old.
Full story below…
On Bruno:
“I think Bruno Mars is very talented. There are a lot of “artists” out there, but then you have ARTISTS who you know are going to have a long career. And [Bruno] is definitely an ARTIST.
We live in London now. Randy and myself. We had the opportunity of seeing Bruno’s show out there not too long ago and we really enjoyed it. He’s not only a songwriter and musician; he has a great deal of charisma on-stage. And I’m always really proud and enjoy [watching him].
[As for a collaboration], Bruno and I have talked about it. That would be interesting”
On Son Eissa:
“Having my son is [my biggest accomplishment].
When you talk about knowing you can do it – obviously with God’s help, there’s nothing you can’t do. Every doctor told me it would not be possible, but I now have a beautiful, healthy, happy baby boy who’s now ten months.”

Fascinating chat and great to see Janet talking again. Her words and how she articulates make for an engaging watch. It’s also warming that she, effectively, gave her first “interview” in a long while via such a medium.
As for the collaboration with Bruno: yes, yes, and yes! Their respective sounds and performance styles compliment each other beautifully.
Can you imagine a collabo in the vein of an ‘Uptown Funk,’ ‘That’s What I Like,’ or ‘Versace On The Floor’ – the latter of which sounds very early Janet?! The choreography would be insane too.
Make…it…happen! Please and thanks.
