Janet Jackson Super Bowl Return: Joe Jackson Hints That It’s Happening

Published: Monday 20th Nov 2017 by Sam

With the world waiting with bated breath to see if Janet Jackson takes to the stage with Justin Timberlake at next year’s Super Bowl, the diva’s father is heavily hinting that it may indeed occur.

Dive below for details…

According to the NY Daily News, Joseph Jackson was quite candid about the possibility of his daughter returning to the controversial platform while in attendance at the Soul Train Awards.

As etched in history, the superstar’s 2004 Halftime headlining gig with then-guest Timberlake became the subject of global debate after their now infamous “wardrobe malfunction.” The aftermath saw Jackson unfairly blackballed for a time by media entities, while the equally culpable Timberlake’s career on unscathed. Their paths have not crossed since.

Speaking to the publication, the Jackson patriarch suggests that’s about to change. He said:

“Janet is ready to comeback and I think it will happen. The way I bought her up she was made for comebacks and this is no different.”

More than just conjecture, Papa Jackson, 89, poured more tea, saying:

“Janet always wanted to know she was not banned after what happened before.

We know conversations have taken place secretly, but no-one is daring to say too much publicly until contracts are signed.

We must not forget this show is about ratings. No one publicly is going to discuss that, but the world and media know that the NFL are in a sticky place over fans reactions to their players taking the knee and protesting the national anthem.

The audience are expecting a show and I feel that they are expecting to see her too. It is what they want.”

We’re cautiously optimistic.
Ultimately nothing is official until it’s official. But, it certainly doesn’t seem far fetched.
Like Joe says, it all boils down to ratings and a Janet Jackson Super Bowl comeback would break the internet twice over. It’s the stuff biopics are made of (see: redemption). What’s more, forget any friendship, it has clear business benefits for both JT and Janet in the short and long term.
We’re team “do it, Janet” here at TGJ. Are you?!
