The Predictions Are In! Sam Smith Set To Sell…

Published: Saturday 4th Nov 2017 by Sam

Sam Smith looks set top the Billboard 200 easily next week with sophomore album ‘The Thrill Of It All.’

However, how big will the British star debut? Find out what the forecast looks like after the jump…

According to Hits Daily Double, the set – which was preceded by hit single ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ – is on course to shift the following…

 195,000-205,000
[Sales Plus Streaming]
******
165,000-175,000
[Pure Sales]

**********

It’s an interesting set of figures.

Because, on the one hand, they’re in line with the 165k Stateside debut of his 2014 freshman set ‘In The Lonely Hour.’

However, when placed in the context of the fact that the LP went on to sell 2.3 million in the US and 5 million worldwide, it begs the question of whether the numbers “should” – in theory – be higher.

Then again, maybe just maybe, the project may prove to be a steady seller. Much like its predecessor.

Maybe.

These are good numbers. His last album actually sold 7 million copies worldwide..

I think he’ll struggle to match the success of his first album, I gave it a listen and I don’t think this second album is that good.

  3. Belladonna November 4, 2017

This is good but it’s not great. His Carpool karaoke was really good but I didn’t really care for the new music but then again I didn’t buy his last Album but I think he will do better in the UK & now that everyone know he’s Gay it’s good to see he didn’t lose any fans.

But it’s nice to see Gay artist selling well Frank Ocean sold 232k in pure albums sales with Blonde. Don’t know why Sam can’t sell more then Frank even with a hit single. But Beyonce sells more then Rihanna & Rih has bigger singles so I guess it’s who you are.

No she doesn’t. Beys frontloaded and then falls off after a few months. Rihanna sells 5-7 million albums worldwide per release. From 2005-2017 Rihanna has sold well over 50 million albums WW. Maybe you meant USA. Queen B has an advantage here but not WW.

Beyoncé is a better VOCALIST PERIOD!! ??‍♂️

whatever category of deep sea creatures you come from , go back with yo lies.
        .
Rihanna has only 2/8 albums to sell 5+ million WW

      • issy November 5, 2017

the lies.. how beyonce frontloaded when she selling more records than Rihanna. Lemonade was the best selling cd ww released in 2016 what more does she need to do?

    • Jasmine November 4, 2017

Whats does Rihanna or Beyonce have to do with Samantha? You are being petty and idiotic.

It´s just what most of the biggest (except for the top5 biggest or so) names are selling in 2016-17. Sales are disappearing. They killed the industry.

    • S****** Blonde November 4, 2017

      I agree with that.

so far Ed Sheeran, P!nk, Jay- slayed first week sales

      • JOHNVIDAL November 5, 2017

Ed´s sales (without streaming) weren´t that big, were they? For all the hype around the release I remember thinking they weren´t impressive.

  7. Caleb November 4, 2017

Wow had no idea he was this popular. The only song I think I’ve heard of his is “Stay with me.”

    —–
False. Rihanna has sold 30 – 35 million albums globally. That 50 million claims is with streaming involved.

  9. Everyone’s A Critic November 5, 2017

The album is a disappointmemt. point blank.
For the amazing vocalist he is, the songs are all the same and there’s no REAL depth to it all. it’s a whiny depressing album that acts as a sequel to his debut . no progression.

Uh live band on You Make Me Crazy, riveting duet with YEBBA…take another listen

  10. JOHNVIDAL November 5, 2017

LOL Rihanna has not sold no damn real 50 million albums worldwise. Not when she is barely over 10 million copies sold in the uSA. It´s just impossible. Adele sold with an album what Rihanna did in her entire career. That´s all. For anybody with a brain and some type of correct perceptive system, it is easy to see the difference. Rihanna has never been universal as to move huge album units. End of story.

What’s interesting about Sam is that he totally abandoned the sound of arguably his first hit, “Latch”. While I understand that was not the sound he was totally committed to, it’s the sound that made him an instant crossover hit in the US. For US Black radio stations to play a white, gay, artist, from the UK, was huge. From what I’ve heard, none of the music he makes without disclosure is particularly interesting. As well, his voice is actually very limited (no singers, that I know, sight him as a reference). I don’t know about Sam Smith. I’ve lived long enough to see huge stars dwindle; it’ll be interesting to see if he can maintain a career through the years. We’re going to need something more than mediocrity.

What is with the bickering? Rihanna and Beyonce have sold around the same number of albums worldwide, which is about 36 million. I like them both whereas Beyonce is the better singer/performer, RIhanna has a much better discography. The girl just has hit after hit, and her records are really good.
