From The Vault: Destiny’s Child – ‘No, No, No [Part 2]’

Published: Sunday 12th Nov 2017 by Joe

Join us as we celebrate two decades of a group that will forever be etched in music’s DNA. Today’s pick was released exactly 20 years ago and hasn’t aged. It’s Destiny’s Child’s ‘No, No, No (Part 2).’

Originally conceived as slow jam, the classic incarnation of the track came in its remixed format courtesy of Fugees alum, Wyclef Jean – who was also a guest rapper on the track.

The single was the band’s first of many chart hits, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and claiming the top spot of the Hip-Hop/R&B tally in the US. It reached the Top 5 in the UK. Pretty amazing for a debut single.

Darren Grant directed the song’s visual. Ironically, in the clip, the girls look like a truly seasoned act – which in a way was the case considering the intensive training they’d been through with Mathew Knowles.

Operating at swag level 100, DC’s original line-up (comprised of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson) showcased that special something that kept this from being yet just another music video.

This week we’re not only celebrating two decades of ‘No, No, No,’ but 20 years of Destiny’s Child as a band and how their presence has changed music history forever.

From their work as a group to their solo endeavors, the ladies of DC have continued to set new standards and we’re confident that’s a trend that won’t be stopping anytime soon.

Needless to say, if and when they’re ready for a reunion, the world will chant in unison “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah”!
