Diplo On Taylor Swift & Cardi B Chart Battle: “Taylor Had To Surrender”

Many have tried, but efforts to dismantle Taylor Swift‘s unstoppable success remain futile.

That was, according to Diplo, until Cardi B came along.

For, the super-producer has revealed that he believes Cardi’s hit ‘Bodak Yellow‘ ascent to #1 after it booted Swift’s ‘Look What Y0u Made Me Do’ from the top spot proves that the latter is one of many Pop stars struggling to find durable hits.

When I moved to L.A., I tried to write pop records, but to be honest I did not know how to do it. I started doing my thing and building my brand. In the end it was successful, but in my own way. I realized that if you are completely independent, you have more power. In L.A. [everyone is] copying each other. All the big pop producers fight to get their first place in the standings … I do not need to make the record that is first in the standings.

All pop stars are struggling to have great hits.Taylor Swift just had to surrender the first position to Cardi B, a rapper, and then Post Malone, another rapper. … If five years ago you said that would happen, I’d never have believed you.

Swift’s latest LP ‘Reputation‘ is already on track to becoming one of the fastest selling sets of the last decade despite the backlash she continues to face for her feuds with Katy Perry, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
