While the smoke and mirrors of “brand Katy Perry” seem in tact (see: new Covergirl commercial, ‘American Idol’ gig, and more), the reality is…it’s not.
Her latest album, ‘Witness,’ has not only garnered her lowest sales to date, but also seen the songstress deliver the most consecutive non-top 40 charting singles of her career. Though its lead single, ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ (peak #4), appeared promising initially, its follow-ups – ‘Bon Appetit’ (#59 peak) & ‘Swish Swish’ (#46 peak) – spelled of everything but promise. The album’s succeeding Sia-penned release, ‘Hey Hey Hey’ (released last month), has yet to crack the Hot 100 despite a big budget video in its support.
Undoubtedly hoping to awaken interest in the tune and boost video streams, Perry took to her official VEVO to show off the behind the scenes action and making of the video. See it inside:
The visual made its way to the net just a week after Perry’s label boss, Capitol Records’ Steve Barnett, has said he’s been in “tough talks” with the singer and her management regarding the nonperformance of her latest album. However, if Barnett is to be believed, fans shouldn’t worry as she’s already begun plotting her musical comeback.
“She has a plan, and we have a plan, and I feel good about it,” the record exec shared. [source]
