In an announcement made today, it’s been revealed that the Pop force will be presented with the GLAAD Vanguard Award at the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 12th.
The honor is reserved for media professionals who’ve made a sizeable impact in promoting equality and acceptance of LGBTQ people.
Citing Spears as consistent advocate for the rainbow community (including online calls to end bullying), President of GLAAD Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement:
“An irrefutable icon, Britney Spears has entertained the world while also embodying the spirit of GLAAD’s Vanguard Award by speaking out on significant issues that face her fans – from the Dream Act to anti-transgender bills in Texas. She is a force in the music world who has used her global platform to share messages of love and acceptance, something that the world needs today more than ever.”
36-year-old Britney, who will be on hand for the ceremony, joins the likes of Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez on the list of Vanguard recipients.
Congrats!
