Just a week after learning her Swae Lee-assisted track, ‘Sativa,’ was certified Gold, Jhene Aiko‘s lifted not one, but two videos for ‘Never Call Me,’ the newest drop from her sophomore studio album, ‘Trip.’
Enlisting help from rapper Kurupt, in one visual Aiko returns to her “old stomping grounds” of Los Angeles. Recently taking to our buds at Billboard, the singer recalls:
“I love where I’m from. I put on for my city as often as possible. I visit my neighborhood as often as possible. I talk about my neighborhood a few times in the song, so I wanted to show people where I’m from and introduce my fans to the people I love… my family and the people I grew up with.”
The star-studded clip – which features appearances from the likes of Nipsey Hu$$le, Lauren London, Hit-Boy, and more – is only one take on the song dedicated to an ex . The other visual sees Aiko portray Izanami no mikoto, Shinto goddess of creation and death, and performing a “funeral to the ego” of her former lover.
See both inside and tell us your fave:
Her vocals remind me of Cassie
Right!!
Except she can sing. Unless Cassie!
Love her!!! Love the videos. Kinda like the L.A one a bit more….but they are both good. One of my fav songs on the album.
Mine too!! I can’t tell you how many times I had this song in repeat lol
