The Weeknd shocked fans on Friday with the surprise release of new EP ‘My Dear Melancholy.’
Hailed for serving as a throwback to Abel’s earlier sound, the project is the first taste of new material from the Canadian crooner since 2016’s ‘Star Boy.’
In the time since Beyonce’s 2013 “digital drop,” many have followed-suit with varying results. How did The Weeknd fare? The first week sales forecasts are in, so head below to find out…
Per Hits Daily Double, ‘My Dear Melancholy’ will easily premiere at #1 on the Billboard 200 with the following numbers:
150,000-175,000
[Sales Plus Streaming]
********
55,000-65,000
[Pure Sales]
********
While the SPS figure are somewhat congruent with The Weeknd’s previous numbers, the pure sales are a little…diet coke.
Still, SPS is what ultimately dictates chart position. So Abel will be fine, so long as he continues to deliver on that front.
