Original Sugababes Star Insists New Album IS Coming

Published: Friday 29th Jun 2018 by Sam

Where are the Sugababes?

It’s the mystery Brit-Pop fans have been trying to solve for five years and even Scooby Doo has been coming up short.

See, the original line-up – comprised of Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, and Siobhan Donaghy – reunited as MKS in 2013 and generated ample buzz with news of a new album.

They cranked anticipation into overdrive with the release of critically acclaimed single ‘Flatline’ – but sadly its title became a literal reality as everything went quiet following its unorthodox midweek retail roll-out.

In the years since, the word “soon” has been offered up as the sole response to questions about a comeback, while curious fans appear to have unearthed documents pointing to a legal wrangle centered around the group’s name. Specifically, a battle for MKS to own the rights to the “Sugababes” title.

Now, in a new interview Siobhan confirms as much, while offering fresh hope for those still eager for material from the ladies.

Speaking in a podcast chat, the new mother revealed that “major legal complications” have been the cause of the hold-up.

She, however, optimistically added that new material is indeed coming:

“We’re working together and recording again and writing. Do I know when a record will come out or in what format? No I don’t. I’d love to say soon just so everyone can joke about it.

We’re all in our early thirties now so it doesn’t really matter when we release this record. To us, it will happen. If it takes longer, that doesn’t mean we’ll suddenly think we don’t want to do this anymore. We got together 20 years ago… and when we sing now it feels just as magical – even more so. That’s really special… this is a natural connection that we have.

The record will come out. Loads of stuff has leaked but I don’t really care. We can write a song in a couple of hours and it’ll be great. We’ve also gone back to stuff we haven’t listened to in years and thought ‘that’s a smash’. I’m never worried about the music with the Sugababes”.

Warming to hear.

The ladies posses a certain magic that is undeniable when their voices are all plugged in together. As such, our anticipation remains sky-high.
