This time? By a company which claims he ripped off Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get it On’ to create ‘Thinking Out Loud.’
Bad news for the singer/songwriter below…
Forced to credit the writers of TLC‘s ‘No Scrubs’ after it was agreed he’d used portions of the jam to build ‘Shape of You‘, Ed is now accused of stealing a large chunk of ‘Let’s Get it On’ to make ‘Loud’.
Enraged by what they see as habitual song stealing, Structured Asset Sales filed a $10 million lawsuit as they represent one of the song’s writers…Edward Townsend.
The Gaye family is yet to announce if they plan to get in on the legal action and sue Ed on Marvin’s behalf.

Good! I’ve been saying for a while that his music is derivative of other artist and even in this time of ‘nothing’s new’ he doesn’t even try to hide the fact that he rips off other artist.

I knew this was coming, the mashup has been on YouTube for a long time. I can hear the similarities although it’s not as bad as Robin Thicke, which was a stronger case of copyright infringement in my opinion.
As much as I can’t stand Ed Sheeran and his voice and music, I still can’t for the life of me hear No Scrubs sounding anything like the Shape of You song. By agreeing to add the songwriters of Scrubs to the credits to avoid a lawsuit, he seems to have opened himself up to more threatened lawsuits.
Caleb in the video above it is clear that he stole the melody and singing style of No scrubs. The lyrics are different which threw me off but hearing the mashup I get exactly what Ed did. Its like taking someone else’s song melodiy and singing style and then singing no top of it with different lyrics

They are REACHING for the stars here. This has got to stop. That’s a pretty basic chord progression, and the actual vocal melodies aren’t similar at all. Pop music has been around for more than 60 years. There are no new melodies at this point. You know out and out plagiarism when you hear it. Kandi and Tiny had a much stronger case with Shape of You.

I first came to know about him in 2010 when he performed Wayfaring Stranger, the same EXACT way that Jamie Woon (super dope artist) performed that song; using a guitar and a loop machine SMH. Ed is a con artist that is conning you into thinking he is “insprired” by other people’s music when in reality he is stealing their musical creativity and changing it slightly with different lyrics. I don’t thonk he is “inspired”, “recreating”, or “interpolating” but rather just stealing.
I didn’t know “thinking out loud” I had to listen to it for the first time 5 minute ago and all I have to say is…someone’s about to pay up because I immediately heard “Let’s get it on”…that bass…that drum line…that guitar is “let’s get it on”. The people suing Ed represent Ed Townsend who actually wrote the damn song. Ironically Marvin himself was forced to change the song’s theme. Marvin had made it “political” but Ed was like “no sir, this is not a song about politics its about love and S**”. They then collaborated and wrote “let’s get it on” as we know it. Someone said “there are no more melodies, everyone copies” LMAO b*******! A piano has eighty-eight keys so the amount of melodies/chords combinations that can be created is literally infinite.
Although I do believe it IS possible to plagiarise without intention but still it’s simple, if you sample GIVE THE CREDIT or change the chord! In university if you don’t give due credit you get ZERO, no questions asked because artistic/intellectual property is important! 70s musicians have been duped for many years by White artists claiming “inspiration”. Who can blame them, that decade is the GOLDEN AGE of Soul and RnB. Chaka Khan gave Kanye West her blessing to sample “through the fire” (one the GREATEST vocal performances by ANY singer) but Chaka (even she didn’t write the song) was so upset by the fact that Kanye turned the pitch up on Chaka’s vocals. What’s even more odd is that this Ed can play instruments, usually those kind of artists have no problem being original eg Stevie Wonder, Prince etc. Be original; if not, pay UP!
