Drake’s ‘Scorpion’ Certified Platinum By RIAA

Published: Wednesday 4th Jul 2018 by Sam

Drake’s dominance grows more impressive by the day.

For, less than a week after

With conventional metrics all but a relic of the past, it’s been confirmed that the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) have certified the rapper’s latest set Platinum – for equivalent US sales of 1 million. And the date of issue is interesting listed as the project’s release date – June 29th.

Some may be asking…how? After all, it’s not even been a week.

Well, as has become an increasing regularity for album’s led by huge pre-release singles, the gargantuan success of ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Nice For What’ via streaming has rendered its parent album at large eligible for the shiny plaque.

The news comes as it was revealed that Drizzy shattered the one-day streaming record for BOTH Spotify and Apple Music and is eyeing a 750,000+ first week opening.

******

While some of the revising of rules has many scratching their heads (as the industry at large adapts to a streaming led system), there’s no denying Drake was Platinum bound regardless.

So…congrats?!

The industry is just a joke now. This is why many artist have either went off to other ventures or release music only to tour. It’s not even fun anymore.

I don’t like how streaming a song counts towards both album sales AND single sales. If that’s the case why even certify singles anymore? And clearly certain artists get more attention from the RIAA while older artists don’t have their back-catalogs ever updated even when they’ve sold an extra million copies since previous certification.

I read that his record label paid for his pictures and tracks were plastered everywhere on spotify, making users to mistakenly click and listen.
I always knew Drake was an overhyped and over bloated mess.
Don’t get me wrong..he is big but not as big as we are all being pushed to believe.
    Soon certifications will mean nothing.
You release a song in 2015(hot line bling)and the album a year later and then get a platinum plaque based on that song?
    Double counting
Soon everyone will be ‘selling’200 million records.
