Something very interesting happened on iTunes last week.
What it was? Well, after watching all of the releases Lil’ Kim launched following her departure from Atlantic Records sink commercially, last week saw a number of the brilliant performer’s older material make a miraculous return and soar into the iTunes Albums Chart.
Interesting, as all of this happened in the same week her nemesis Nicki Minaj dropped her latest album ‘Queen.’
Only right then, with her digital gains in mind, that Kim fans expect the LPs to move enough units to make major waves on the Billboard 200.
Alas, they haven’t…and it’s left many of them confused.
Today in news that will make many go “hmmm”, Kim’s LP ‘Hardcore’ has failed to make a dent on the Billboard 200’s Top 50 despite “out charting” a number of the albums that, according to SoundScan, outsold her.
One of those albums?
J. Cole’s ‘KOD‘ which – according to iTunes- was being outdone by ‘Hardcore’ this week yet managed to claim this week’s #32 spot with 11,830 units moved. Another?
Drake‘s ‘Scorpion‘ which, like ‘KOD’ watched ‘Hardcore’ reach #1 on iTunes Hip Hop yet spends this week at #3 while Kim’s sets are nowhere to be seen.
Any theories?
