Angie Stone has surprised fans of Bruno Mars by revealing that she is yet to receive a cheque for her artistic contributions to his discography.
As part of the Hip-Hop trio The Sequence, Angie released the track ‘Funk You Up‘…a track they believed was used to build Bruno’s ‘Uptown Funk.’
Now she wants her money.
Watch below…
The Sequence stand as one member of a group of artists who believe Bruno and Mark Ronson bit their bops to create ‘Funk’ and are now suing him.
Bruno isn’t the only Pop prince accused of being a song-snatcher.
I love Angie Stone but she needs to fact check. They don’t sound nothing alike. On top of that, you oughta be askin Mark Ronson for your coins. After all it’s his song not Bruno’s.
Bruno Mars has writing credits on the song, and he’s the primary vocalist so it’s just as much his as Marks. The bassline sounds very similar. They will win.
@NYOB: I agree. The basslines aren’t similar. Bruno and Co. have already been sued (and lost and had to pay) over the “Oops upside your head” notes sequence, so this is just a reach.
Copyright law needs to be revisited and clarified. Sixty years of pop music means that no truly new melodies and concepts exist. Remember that from the 50s through the 80s, new technology drove innovation. That’s no longer true. There needs to be a more stringent standard for rulings on copyright infringement.
Let it play out in court. Mark Ronsom took 4 black songs from the late 70s and early 80s and smashed them together to make this song. If you want to “hear” and “feel” the similarities then listen to both songs with your eyes closed and no visual.
Get yo coins sis… Bruno stay stealing from the 70-80s even 90’s era.
They do not sound anything like each other
I told y’all Bruno was stealing from black artists a looooooooooooooog time ago
I was thinking about this as well, some of his music does have some significant sounds that her old group was built through…?
Bruno COME UP OFF THEM COINS SIr
