Four years ago Empress of Soul Gladys Knight took to press to announce she was interested in casting Destiny’s Child alum Kelly Rowland as the lead singer in her yet-developed biopic (click here to read).
Now, it appears the ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ legend is getting her wish. Details inside:
[TMZ] obtained the first images of Kelly playing Gladys in the new BET series, “American Soul” [seen above]… which chronicles the rise of “Soul Train” creator and iconic host, Don Cornelius.

We couldn’t be more excited for the finished product and hope it’s just the first step toward a full on film of Miss Gladys’ life.
Awesome
It is! I hope this sets up the bio pic that Gladys has said she’s wanted Kelly to her for many years now! Love Kelly!
She sounds good, but she doesn’t sound like Gladys Knight. Kelly Rowland sounds like, Kelly Rowland. Gladys Knight voice is husky and has little bit more soul than Kelly. This is misleading to me. You could have said video of Kelly filming for “Soul” series.
Kelly is supposed to sound like Kelly. It ain’t karaoke. If she sounded like a carbon copy of Gladys you’d have something to say about that too.
I think you missed the point. Bravo was saying that the title was misleading, when i pressed the video she sounded and looked like Kelly Rowland so the title could’ve been different.
Its not like Bravo was being negative
@Sandra thank you
i’d love to see kelly as donna summer. THAT would’ve been a perfect match.
Yes!!! She can do both though! Can’t wait for new music! I want a solo tour from her as well!
Actually that would be really good!
Yes I’m here for this & Gladys Knight said she loved her as a choice and I concur!! Sang that song Kelendria ?
She definitely doesn’t sound like Gladys but she damn sure sound good. Crisp and clear, I love it.
Yes i love it. Kelly sound sound is getting better and better. I hope this is kelly break out role. Cant wait
CHILLS!!!
why Kelly? ??????
Gladys is Alive and Well she looks great may I ask why you got Kelly that is an insult to. Gladys who could play herself
