Upon the release of Meek Mill‘s album ‘Championships,’ one of the hottest talking points was Jay-Z‘s verse on the song ‘What’s Free.’
On the track, which also features Rick Ross, Jigga seemingly takes lyrical aim at Kanye West. For he rapped:
“No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and Ye.
They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA.
I ain’t one of these house ni***s you bought.
My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours.
My spou—c’mon, man—my route better, of course.”
Naturally, this saw the media mill crank into overdrive – with many deeming it a diss targeted at Ye. But Jay is saying that’s not the case.
His words await after the jump…
Making a rare appearance on Twitter, the mogul contextualised the lyrics as being about how people are trying to divide him and his “brother” Ye based on their political differences (see: red hat / Donald Trump). He said:
“The line clearly meant don’t pit me against my brothers no matter what our differences are (red hat) now go pick up Meek album . Drake and Meek on there together .”
Kanye followed up shortly after, responding with the title ‘Throne 2’ – a tease reference to the much talked about sequel to he and Jay’s joint album ‘Watch The Throne.’
