Breaking: R. Kelly Dropped By Sony Music

Published: Friday 18th Jan 2019 by Sam

In breaking news, it’s been reported that Sony Music have terminated their relationship with embattled singer R. Kelly.

Full story below…

Variety have, on strong authority, confirmed that the industry juggernaut has officially dissolved its near 30 year partnership with the star.

Interestingly, no formal announcement is expected to be made in the immediate future, nor will there be a formal removal of his name from his label’s website (as is oft practice for dropped” acts).

This, it seems, may have something to do with the same report’s claim that Kelly’s back-catalogue will remain with Sony’s RCA imprint.

Moving forward, however, no new music will be released by the label.

The development comes after the much touted calls to #MuteRKelly and an outpouring of fury targeted at the 52-year-old following Lifetime‘s docu-series ‘Surviving R. Kelly.’

Broadcast in three parts (each of which were two hours in length), the Dream Hampton production showcased the accounts of several women who claimed the self-proclaimed Pied Piper sexually and violently abused them. Many say they were in their teens at the time.

Perhaps most nauseating were the detailed accounts of his relationship with Aaliyah (who he married when she was just 15) and the accusations of his conduct with the teen at the center of his infamous 2008 trial.
