Nicki Minaj’s ‘Megatron’ generated over $500,000 worldwide in its opening week.
Where the lion’s share of its first week earnings came from? The United States.
The single’s success has come as a surprise to those who feared the rapper’s star had waned following the release of the so-so selling ‘Queen’ and seen it rise above and beyond a number of tracks which enjoyed the benefit of a longer lead in time.
In its opening week the song’s sales saw it earn north of $500,000 thanks to support from the likes of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand & France. Of this half a million, 99,000 dollars sprung from her domestic market.

The song sold 29,000 pure units and was streamed over 10 million times during the same period which saw it bag 99k for the rapper, her producers and their respective publishing companies who can expect to see its earnings cross the $1 million point by the end of August.
‘Mega’s mega opening week should come as no surprise to those familiar with Minaj’s sales history, as her fans are among one of the last bases to prioritise sales over streaming when supporting releases.
Back in 2010, the group purchased 1 million copies of her debut album ‘Pink Friday‘ in the United States alone and in 2012, to support her second set ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded‘, they pushed sales of her single ‘Starships’ over the 7.2 million singles sold barrier within the first six months of its release.
Of course, branding and creative missteps made by the rapper following Safaree Samuels‘ departure from her camp saw her fail to make full use of her base and neglect a number of key markets on a promotional front. As a result? Sales of her albums and their singles dipped to figures which, though were commendable for some of her more Spotify-dependant peers- were anything but for her.
