Thanks to the ongoing success of his sophomore single, ‘Panini,’ rapper/singer Lil Nas X continues to disappoint critics who’d written him off as a “one hit wonder.”
The follow-up to the colossal hit, ‘Old Town Road’ (which shattered Billboard records for longest reigning #1 single), ‘Panini’ – much like its predecessor – is enjoying a run in Billboard’s upper rankings thanks to multiple music videos, a number of remixes, and performances on top tier outlets and award shows in its support. Being armed with a futuristic, Mike Diva-directed music video hasn’t hurt either as the most refreshed charts reveal the tune’s bounced right into the Hot 100’s top 10.
As if that’s not enough, the new peak is accompanied by news the song has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Landing at #5 on this week’s Hot 100, Billboard reports:
Lil Nas X leaps to his second Hot 100 top 10, after “Old Town Road,” as “Panini” vaults 14-5. The song debuted at No. 16 on the July 16-dated chart and spent the next 10 weeks between Nos. 22 and 40 before roaring to No. 14 (from No. 29) a week ago, fueled by the Sept. 5 premiere of its official video.
Following the Sept. 13 arrival of its DaBaby remix, “Panini” soars 9-2 on Streaming Songs (43.7 million, up 22%, sparking its top Streaming Gainer award win on the Hot 100) and 33-17 on Digital Song Sales (9,000, up 56%). It also enters Radio Songs, up 30% to 22.2 million in all-format audience in the week ending Sept. 22.

The news above followed reports from the RIAA the tune had reached Platinum status, meaning it had “sold” the equivalent of one million units through digital sales and/or streaming.
Its parent project, the ‘7’ EP, was also certified Platinum this week.
