Lizzo has done it!
Two years after initially releasing ‘Truth Hurts,’ the anthem has become her first ever #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Details below…
This week saw the song climb #3-#1, crowning a 17 week journey on the tally to the top spot.
But the trek has, in truth, been much longer.
For, the song (which knocks Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’ ‘Senorita’ to #2) was initially released in 2017 as the 30-year-old hustled her way through the industry ranks.
It received revived interest after being featured in Netflix‘s ‘Someone Great’ movie and made its Hot 100 debut at #50 where it’s been climbing ever since.
So, what powered its push in this all-important week?
Well, armed with the momentum of a remix featuring Da Baby and high profile performance spots on the Today Show and the MTV VMAs, the song amassed 34.4 million US streams, 98.4 million radio impressions, and sold 53,000 digital downloads. All in the last tracking week.
The song’s unique trajectory no doubt comes as a colossal win for Lizzo (whose debut major label effort ‘Cuz I Love You’ opened at #6 in May). It also is a major coup for Atlantic Records, who in recent years have helped architect the breakout success of Cardi B too.
Reacting to the news, the Houston native said:
Congrats!
