The judge overseeing his case denied his request to be released from jail days ago because he believed prosecutors who say they have found proof that he is hiding money in his friend’s bank account.
Kelly claimed that he wasn’t a flight risk because he had been drained of his “financial resources” but is now accused of trying to pull a fast one on the legal system by having his music royalties transferred to a third party so that he can access the cash he is said to be hiding at a later date.

The defendant continues to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in connection with royalties he is owed for his music. The government’s investigation has revealed that earlier this year, the defendant re-directed those royalties to the bank account of a childhood friend. Regardless of where those funds are being held, however, they belong to the defendant and, at any time, the defendant can redirect those funds – and future royalty proceeds earned – to an account in his name.
